In the 60's, I read how to make gunpowder. I got saltpeter from the drug store, and a charcoal briquette. Used a hammer to pulverize the charcoal, mixed in the saltpeter, and threw a match on it. In north Ethiopia we extract the crude potassium nitrate from deep caves and we add sulfur and carbon(charcoal). No need to boil. Mixture of these three fined elements just make gunpowder. At the end spot of the bullet we put head of a match, fill it with the gunpowder and finally put the tip of the bullet that already was used(fired). Caution needed in every step. This is done for entertainment and not for information. Here's a quick tip for the sulfur and potassium.nitrate part. Simply find some good quality black Black soil. Ask a friend or farmer with chickens to collect a 5 gallon bucket of soil from under where their chicken coop.is or was. They will know what you mean. Put holes in the bottom of said bucket. Put tight mesh strain cloth under the bucket. Pour in hot boiling water and catch the runoff in a seperate container. Cover and wait overnight for it to cool. When you come back you will find crystals growing in the bottom. Best to leave it to grow till afternoon if you can. Further process these crystals by repeating the water process with the crystals crushed up. Second crystals are purer. And so on and so forth... Sulfur is a bit trickier and can be obtained theough buying or finding large amounts of iron pyrite, crushing said pyrite into powder and smoke distilling it. That is putting it in a clay container with a tube coming out of it that collects into another container then cooking the container with the crushed pyrite over even medium fire. Said smoke will leave a nearly pure sulfur coating on the inside of the second container. Congratulations. You now have slightly unstable gunpowder. Tweak ratio yourself. Add sugar for bigger oomf.

In the earlier 80's For the science fare I made Black Powder. They wouldn't allow it in the library for the science fare. It was raining outdoors and and I had to do it out doors. Was so cool they took a photo of me and behind me was the fuel truck gassing up the busses when it flashed off. They claim the photo was over exposed and didn't develop. I think they saw their safety failure and it burned uo too. Hahaha

Vous ne mettez pas de soufre ?

No, it's an additional fuel only. We can prepare without sulfur also.
@laurencedarabia20007 ай бұрын
@@tingzky Sulfur is not a fuel in black powder, its function is as a catalyst. It serves to increase the reaction speed between saltpeter and char. the mixture of just saltpeter with char does not reach 100 meters per second burning speed and can only serve as a propellant for fireworks. The addition of a.c. 10% sulfur brings the speed to c.a. 1,000 meters per second, transforming it into a powerful explosive device
