@@PlayFullChemist No it sadly doesn't work, it would just form hexamine nitrate, which would upon heating in the acidic solution start to hydrolise to formaldehyde and ammonia. I think that the RDX can just be made with the fuming acid.

I tried to make HDN a few minute ago but i didnt cool the hexamine solution before poring nitric acid into it and theres no percipitation of hdn formed,if i put the solution in ice water container can it still make HDN?

Yes that's the problem! If the hexamine solution isn't cooled enough, hardly any precipitate or even like in your case, nothing will happen. I also had this problem the first time I did this synthesis and I didn't cool the hexamine solution before i added the nitric acid. Nothing happened. But when I did it another time, I cooled the solution and the crystals quickly precipitated out. But i don't know if they would precipitate if you cooled the already mixed hexamine and nitric acid. Try it and maybe it works! 😃

@@qwerty7877 Yes you can but it is safer and easier to do it this way (using HDN). If you di it directly, the HDN will form as an intermediate anyways. But again it is generally better, safer and easier to do it this way.
