Your buddy that is building the tube chassis red S10 uses Ram board for templates. It's a thick poster board material that they use to cover flooring during construction. It comes on a roll so it would probably last a long time. Have not tried it yet but it's on my list.

Get you a roll of ram board from your home improvement store store it is thicker than poster board if you brake it it will somewhat hold its shape
