Not gonna lie, even just reading the title to this one had me floored. The very concept of combining TerraFirmaCraft and GregTech is patently insane to me, not just on the basis of "these are both really hard mods", but also because it has to have been compatibility hell, given TFC's status as THE total conversion Minecraft mod. Caveins are not only bad for the player's safety, they also destroy or reduce ore quality when they happen. Once the first cavein occurs, the bits of cave roof where the "hardened " fell from need to be reinforced with solid blocks, even (placed) polished stone works(though if another cavein happens, it can get destroyed). This is because when digging any block, even if the block was supported, any unsupported blocks in a relatively wide area have a chance to cause caveins which then can cause a ripple effect and reach back at you. Support beams are simple, they're the same as they were in previous TFC versions. Only the horizontal support beams offer any structural support, and they do so up to 1 block above and below, and in a 4 block radius around 'em. To not mess up, just place a torch underneath and count the blocks away from torch. It's efficient to use max-length beams (5 blocks between verticals) Destroying the support beams doesn't cause caveins (though blocks affected by gravity might fall if they were already previously suspended) and after widening a digging area, it could be a good idea to re-arrange them so that they're more efficient and you don't have to make/bring more with you. Care should be taken when using the chisel, as chiseling blocks also does a block update for the purposes of caveins, and the block being chiseled is "temporarily not there", so it's a bad idea to chisel the block underneath a stone block you wanted to get in "raw" form, if that block isn't supported, as it can cause a cave-in chain.

for anyone else interested in trying out terrafirma there are two other copper ore variants that can spawn in metamorphic, sedimentary and intrusive igneous rocks as well, so while igneous extrusive rock biomes are useful you can actually get started in most biomes, and there are three bronze variations, Bismuth bronze using zinc, bismuth and copper, black bronze made of gold, silver and copper and the bronze you used which is copper and tin, its done in a way so that you can progress somewhat even if you are like 5k blocks away from any sort of igneous extrusive rock biome. Also if you get bellows and already have a charcoal forge you can fire pottery without a pit kiln, you still have to melt the bronze in a vessel in a pit kiln but otherwise you can just use the charcoal forge for practically everything

You should use Gregtech hammers instead of pickaxes and mining hammers for mining ores, as using hammers drops crushed ores, which you can further crush into dust and throw that dust into water for ore dust. The ore dust usually gives 144 mb for "pure" ores like copper and 129 mb for "impure" ores like Chalcopyrite of molten metal. You can also skip making a copper/bronze pickaxe by using the stone hammer. The crucible is also incredibly useful, as it allows you to not only make alloys more easily, but also heat up more ingots at the same time while using the same amount of fuel. If you have any half-full ingot molds lying around, you can also heat them up and pour metal out of them; you can even make alloys inside of them.
@dakeyras41465 ай бұрын
The crucible would require traveling thousands of blocks, finding graphite, Kaolin clay, and then processing it. which would take longer from nothing to iron tools than nothing to crucible. The hammers are a good idea but using a combination of both mining and regular hammers is a lot quicker and more efficient when it comes to mining. That and just... if they didn't mine in caves, the instability system totally screwed them because they did that.

@beanmaster23314 ай бұрын
@@dakeyras4146 I didn't mean to say, that one should rush to get a crucible, I just wanted to show, that it has other uses than the blast furnace. He needs to get the crucible for the blast furnace anyway to make steel, so getting a second for his charcoal forge isn't that much more effort, as the most difficult part is first finding the kaolin clay. Not sure if it's clear but he shouldn't use wrought iron for steelmaking in the blast furnace because it just needs cast iron which he can get by smelting the ores directly or just throwing the ores in the blast furnace. He should also prepare a lot of charcoal before using the blast furnace because it uses a ton of it. The caves aren't really the problem it's just that he didn't understand how the supports worked, the only part that does anything in the supports is the horizontal block, from that block out every block within a 4 block horizontal and a 2 block vertical distance is supported. He just needs to place supports every 4 blocks. Caves make it somewhat more awkward to start placing the supports, but the roofs are naturally supported so it's just a minor inconvenience. The real problem is that it not only matters if the block above the one mined is supported it just checks for unsupported blocks within some area and causes collapses with some chance. After the first collapse, many unsupported blocks are created which become almost impossible to support without causing more cave-ins. It is also possible to make supports with different heights and widths not just 3 blocks, you can even have multiple horizontal blocks between two beams.

16:48 the prospector's pick always seemed silly to me. if it isn't used to mine anything, and a regular pickaxe doesn't have a right click function, why not just combine the two into one tool. just allow the player to prospect with a regular pickaxe

I play Vintage Craft and in watching you do the smithing section, I realised that the system TerraFirmaCraft has is much more interesting. One is total voxal manipulation, and the other is this minigame where you gotta strike the metal in the right way for you to accomplish the same thing, but with the latter it has a quality system, so the better you are at the minigame, the better your tools are. Cool.

Just gonna throw out a forging tutorial for anybody lol In TFC forging, all of the forge actions of have a value, red negative, green positive. You'll need to use these actions to bring the green arrow on the bar onto the red arrow, while also ending with the 3 actions shown in the grey. The values of all the actions: 2 Punch 7 Bend 13 Upset 16 Shrink -3 Light Hit -6 Medium Hit -9 Heavy Hit -15 Draw Now for me, the way I do it is basically: Bring the green arrow onto the red, regardless of if it matches the actions needed. Formulate a list of actions that in total values at 0 while also ending in the ending 3. So I'd list the last 3 and add up their values to see how much I need to negate it, then find what actions will counter it. A plate ends in 3 of any type of hit. The way I went with it was to use a hard hit with 2 light hits for the finisher, which totals to 15. And to negate those finishing 3, I would use punch and upset, as that also adds to 15. So an overall list would have been Punch [2] Upset [15] Hard Hit [6] Light Hit [3] Light Hit [0]
@Hecuba394 ай бұрын
I tried explaining that in the commentary but it screwed up the flow of the video so I left it unexplained since the only people who care are the people who already know how it works but thank you for the exact values

Man, quite a few years back I wrote myself an AutoHotkey script to detect where the red pointer needs to end up at. Since all smithing recipes have the exact same required moves(by recipe type), just different required alignments (based on world seed and metal type), I then just type in the hotkey combo to trigger the smithing and it's done.

@@TheBrokenVirus tbh they made it look worse than it actually was. Most of the struggles in the video seemed to be their lack of knowledge about how the mining system works and using caves to mine for resources. That and just... not making a copper anvil first was agonizing, but fine. The difficulty between getting iron and Steel (the next thing) is harder, and still more time consuming with a good strategy and TFC (and some TFG) knowledge and good luck. Me and a friend of mine got to iron in 3-4 hours today from a new world, and it took 10 hours to finally get to get to steel. (granted, a god spawn/coincidence for iron-steel stuff.) I might make a little document in the comment section about what I would recommend other info and tips. Also, two people make the run like 1.5x faster, rather than 2x because smithing is so time consuming, and mining and finding the stuff is quicker than smithing ;-;. Solo could be an easy 5 hour run to get to iron given decent seeding. This isn't me trying to criticize them for their lack of knowledge, but most of the struggles were a fundamental lack of knowledge of how the mining system works and other small, but important changes.
