This webinar discussed initiatives that support Aboriginal communities and stakeholders to access and use data about Aboriginal people, families and communities that is held by the Department of Communities and Justice. Information was provided about publicly available data as well as how to seek access to bespoke data to aid with community planning and decision-making.
In this webinar, Ian Brown and Maelona Stephens from the Closing the Gap - Priority Reform on Data team outlined the NSW Data Connector Service. The Data Connector Service forms part of the joint program of work between the NSW Government and the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peaks Organisations (CAPO). The service aims to provide Aboriginal people with data about their communities to inform decision-making and future planning. The Data Connector Service provides a single point of contact for Aboriginal communities and organisations to request access to government-held data.
Hendra Santoso, Senior Analyst, Child Protection Reporting, FACSIAR, provided guidance on what is available in the public Aboriginal-led dashboards for child protection and out-of-home care data. He conducted a short tutorial on how to use the data to look at District level reporting and showed the latest data insights from the current dashboards.
This webinar was chaired by Jessica Stewart (Executive Director, FACSIAR) and Peter Reily (Director Organisational Performance, FACSIAR).
