A community company I performed at, had a similar set up for a production of 12 Angry Men in 2018. The rain only fell onto the windows of the jury room, and into a trough behind the set, then out a side door to a collection tank. The audience were amazed.

Thank you for sharing. It's apparent he got wet so isn't the stage wet how are you going to do a whole number without him slipping around?

The wood slats are painted with a grit non-slip paint while being spread apart enough on the raked stage to allow the water to fall through and back into the system with a small lip at the bottom so the water did not overflow off the raised raked platform. No rain got outside the area and since this is the closing number of the first act, a little clean up and a couple of blowers to dry everything out and we were good to go for the second act.

Finding this years later, but very curious how you kept the actor's mic dry. Did you run a water-resistant lav at his hairline? Leverage a hanging mic or boundary, or perhaps a hidden shotgun? Sound quality is fantastic, so I'm very curious. Am I viewing it that the rainfall was only in a narrow line downstage, so when he goes back to the light post he's no longer getting wet? Absolutely love this effect and the technical background, would love to learn more. Thanks!

We used a special Countryman mic that was waterproof.
