Installing new hair wash seating into a new hair salon for a customer of mine, had to alter it and make it work in a way that it isn’t usually connected, however this is “Real World Plumbing” and there is always a way to connect it up…

Hi Mark, fantastic film again, so good I watched it twice. Great job in the hairdressers pipework and soldering, my favourite, hope the stop tap shows itself. The barn is a great job too, thank you for the explanation and diagram of the secondary return, I did not understand anything about them, now I do, brilliant. I’m looking forward to Sunday for the sunken bath/shower etc. Have a good rest of the week, take care, regards, Chris 👍👍👍👍

Thanks for taking the time to pull this together mate. The shower tray fixing is always a contentious subject. I tend to adapt my approach depending on the floor type and how level it is. In the nrw build case I would probably always SBR it first and then silicon. Where the floor is uneven or not level of concrete floor, SBR and then tile adhesive to bed it in and level it. I did watch a video from Skill Builder which does explain why a soft bed of concrete is the recommended approach. But, like you, I tend to stick to what I kkow and works.

I had noticed you'd got a few mates Mark. Thinking when I finish college I need to find some to get work done. 🤣 Least my name ain't Billy. Big old salon should look nice when it's all kitted out. The price of them sinks is mental though. Moisture boards is an interesting way to cut costs on a project of that size and quality. Not to current regs either. His gaff his choice but an odd decision from my perspective anyway. Looking forward to the sunken shower on Sunday 😊

The only gripe would be on the tray analogy is that silicone on a warped floor and it will crack. The use of mortar gives you a solid even bed. Nothing to do with the legs or strength of it. I do use silicone on new builds myself but always check the floor for level and that it hasn’t got any bows in it. I hope that helps 👍
@MJTiffPlumbing

@@MJTiffPlumbing absolutely spot on mate. Like I said I use silicone on new builds myself. I have come across some pissed floors on older houses and to combat that is to cut them out and ply the shower area. The ply will bend a bit and get reasonably flat but not perfect. Using mortar can alleviate that as you can level it out to give a flat bed

I mean silicone for shower tray, on the side of it and for the tray waste? That secondary return? Why does the water circulate in the hot water circuit if threes no demand on the taps.?
@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing 2 жыл бұрын
It’s pumped so it circulates when a hot water draw is a long way from the cylinder, set on a timer for when the demand is first used that day or later in the day. Otherwise it can take minutes for the water to get hot and a waste of energy.
@adierob1
@adierob1 2 жыл бұрын
We will have to agree to disagree mark on that secondary return, you can only use copper, maincor mlcp, tectite mlcp on secondary returns as plastic doesn't comply with bs 7291 even polypipe and John guest say don't use it even if it's timed and used for short periods, but each to their own. On the plus side I had to laugh at the hair washing stations, a one of them would be useless to me and so would just for men 😆😆😆
