These look great! I was hoping another episode was coming after E7. I'm surprised you didn't glass the shafts, I figured for those of us who'll use a paddle as a lever to get off a rock a layer of glass over the whole length of shaft would give it some extra rigidity. Thanks for continuing to post these, I'm always looking forward to your stuff.

I have glassed the shafts on some paddles. It is hard to do well, and this Sitka spruce is nice stuff that doesn't need much help.

Add a slight sprinkling of salt to help stop the slipping. Also, drill for a dowel during dry-fit, realign joint during glue-up.

Great videos Nick. Best I can tell, the Max 2K Clear Glamour does not offer UV protection. The company website touts "weather resistant", but that's not the same. Keep up the great work.

Different tools work different muscles. This way you get a full body workout.

Try a few micro bubbles or grains of sand between the shaft joints to help keep things from sliding so much.

Thank you for sharing this information! I am about to make my first ever canoe paddle to go with my first ever made canoe. I don't like working with epoxy and fiber. I am thinking about using boat lacker/varnish, mainly because that is what I have. I am gonna use dark African hardwood and either larch (that's what I have) or ash, but that's a bit expensive atm... Do you think that's ok? Or would you have any other suggestions? Greetings from the Netherlands

When you dry set it couldn’t you add a small wooden pin dowel then reassemble with those for registration? Jus t spin the pins of the same wood you drill?
