I make and use Greenland paddles like these in this video. I filmed this while making a small batch of paddles for Chesapeake Light Craft in Annapolis Maryland ( CLCboats.com )
I use Eastern Spruce sourced from my local lumberyard here in Maine. the wood is sustainably grown in northern New England and eastern Canada. I add highlights of Western Red Cedar and American walnut. The paddles are glued with Titebond III waterproof glue. the tips are fiberglassed with fiberglass yarn and MAS epoxy. once sanded they are give 3 to 5 coats of marine Spar Varnish.
I really enjoy using Greenland Style paddles for all my paddling both for recreational paddling in the marsh and river near my house and touring out in the bays.
I make 4 sizes 210-230cm. they should be sized approximately by the distance from the floor to your raised palm.
