Making Lapis Lazuli Oil Paint Natural Ultramarine Blue Pigment Miguel Bevia

In this video I show how to make Lapis Lazuli for oil Paint. I will take you through the steps of how I make the paint and apply the paint on canvas or panel. The medium I used in this video to make my paint is sun-thickened walnut oil.

It’s good to glaze the lapis over a cheaper blue (ie pb29 ‘synthetic’ ultramarine) , as a final glaze, and not to mix with white, but to have it mix optically using the gesso ground itself. Adding white dulls the weak lustre and subtle quality lapis has to offer through transparent glazes.
