Hi theroadrunnermeep! You can absolutely leave out the avocado oil and add more sweet almond oil. It will change the texture slightly, so you may want to do a small test batch to see if you like the results. Also, leaving out the colorant will not change the consistency. It's purely aesthetic. =)

Hi Soap Queen..thanks for the great video! Could you please specify recommended temperature right before filling the tubes? My batch had divet holes so I used a heat gun but it didn't fill in the holes at all. It just melted a big amount from the top and still left the divet hole. And a few balms looked like they cracked. Not sure if it's a temp problem or what I'm doing wrong.

a little trick you can try is to put a piece of tape on the back at the corner and pull back while hold the label down onto a flat surface. Should at least help grab the corner up without fudging your label.

just an off question away from the lip balm subject , are micas just used for melt and pour soap?each time I make Cold process soap and I use 1 tsp for color, they always seem to fade or morph? how do I fix this? am I supposed to used oxides or pigments? please help

Could you use soy wax as a substitute for the Bees wax? What about using an old lipstick melted down for color?

Typically soy wax is a little softer than beeswax - so you may want to use a little more of it so that the lip balm isn't too mushy. Tinting your lip balm with a touch of pre-made lipstick usually works great! They usually melt down and mix in easily.

Thank you so much for all of your informative videos and recipes! When making lip balm, is it necessary to sterilize the tubes, or just wash with soap and water? My problem is that I find that the tubes take a very long time to dry and I have to dismantle all of the parts. I'm not sure if all of this is necessary. What do you do?

+DawsontwinA You can just wash them out with soap and water if you like! That helps remove any dust and debris from shipping. You can also spritz the tubes with 99% isopropyl alcohol and wipe them with a paper towel.
