I’m in this video. Platoon 3100 Killa Kilo Company! I never watched my VHS of this but look how things just come back and find you… nearly 22 years later. God bless whoever posted this!

My daughter is the recruit marching next to Drill instructor Campbell (Black woman D. I.) at 8:45-8:53. My daughter graduated on October 19, 2001..... It was a tense time, right after 9-11. We had to have special passes to get on Parris Island for family day, and to pick up our new Marines, but what an amazing day. This is not my daughters graduation day, but it looks exactly the same. Of course with new recruits coming all the time, they kind of almost overlapped....Some of this video was from the Discovery channel on Parris Island. They were there to film The Making of a Marine, 2001. Then 9-11 happened, everything is in the original VHS movies. I bought the whole set to watch and my daughter was in the video multiple times.

You are right...... My daughter is in this video and she was in boot camp during 9-11. She graduated Oct. 19th, 2001. She is the young recruit marching right next to the Black woman Drill instructor, (Campbell) at 8:45. What a day that was. Mostly because I missed my daughter, but you had to have a special pass to even get on Parris Island. It had to be in your car window at the corner. If you didn't have it, you didn't get in.....Then each car had to be searched....(we set in a line that stretched around that exit ramp that went in a circle for probably 2 hrs.) before even getting in Parris Island. I was so happy for my daughter that day, but so sad for some of the Marines. Some of them had parents who worked in the twin towers.

My Marine son was 15 on 9/11 - Ground Zero is right across the Hudson from our town so we watched the tragedy unfold first hand. Years later, after his 1st deployment, he told me that was the day he decided to become a US Marine. We watched this film together several times. He graduated Parris Island in 2006 (proudest day of our lives!), did 2 deployments - Iraq and Afghanistan and among other decorations earned his "Good Cookie" and a Meritorious Mast. Semper Fi to all Marines and their Moms!

My mom posted this video and told me she found me in it. Watching it brought back so many feelings, even beyond boot camp…this will always be a part of me no matter what I go through in life.

As a second generation Marine Nam Vet 68-69, my dad 38-46 WW2 Vet. I remember the movies that were made of the time I was in Boot Camp. No...wait...no I don’t. No one cared back then.
@diamondhair113 жыл бұрын
I would have given anything to see boot camp videos of that time. You are right. Vietnam Vets were treated horrible when they came back.... All my uncles were in every branch of military. 1 uncle in WWII Bob Houser Army, 1 uncle Raymond Houser Army in the Korean war, 2 uncles in Vietnam both Army Johnny Houser and Cecil Houser. Then my brother Jerry Darst Air Force, My daughter is a Marine, Graduated October 19, 2001, right after 9-11. I remember my uncle Cecil telling us the airport stories. People would spit at him, call him baby killer, he said no one met him at the airport except for family. You know how now days groups of people show up with flags, cheering for men, women they don't even know......It wasn't like that then....... other than that he never told us any stories.... He was very secretive about Viet Nam. He said he just wanted to forget it.

I was MCRD San Diego Aug-Nov 1989. If they graduated in November 2001, they literally went to boot camp a few weeks before 9/11. That's crazy. For me, a year later after graduation, I completed technical training and was on the same day Hussein went into Kuwait. I was sent over there soon enough.

@JohnnyRebKy3 жыл бұрын
Must have. I was there in 2005 and have no idea what your talking about?? Sir Sandwich ?
@blakman73 жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyRebKy The sir sandwich is a term used when a recruit says "sir" as the first and last words out of their mouth. Like "Sir, this recruit requests permission to make a head call, sir." Nowadays, you only say "sir" at the end of saying something, no longer at the beginning.
@JohnnyRebKy3 жыл бұрын
@@blakman7 oh ok. When I was on the Island in 2005 we never said sir first. We only said sir at the end. But I noticed videos from San Diego they say sir first and last like your talking about. I guess there are still some differences between San Diego and the Island. Honestly I think San Diego is the better training camp. There's some shady stuff that goes on in the swamp. My first night there the Dis in receiving was allowing some corporal to run around sticking a knife to recruits throats. It was crazy. He didn't do it to me but I was prepared for it. I was going to fight to the death if he did. So on day 1 in the swamp my career almost ended. I never heard of that happening anywhere else. San Diego seems to be more squared away. My dad was there in 1965 and he was kinda shocked by some of the things i told him about the island.

I will NEVER forget the bayonet course. I got in trouble for doing a confederate southern rebel yell instead of just going ahhhhh lol. One DI chewed me out whole the other could hardly keep from laughing lol. I got nicknamed JohnnyReb the rest of my life 👍 If you don't know...during the civil war southern soldiers did a rebel yell in battle. They were told to scream like demons on the attack. Being a southerner I gave out a rebel yell while attacking the tires in boot camp lol. Some of the southern DIs knew exactly what I was going and tried so hard not to laugh while the other thought I was just being silly
