The voice in the chorus is basically saying different kinds of side effects, reference to the title of the song. He says things like anxiety, nausea, psychosis, and headaches, but that’s only some of them.

there is so many things you dont know. tbh stray kids really made it confusing for us. their new serial is called cle, which means key in French therefore the key at the end is supposed to unlock something. there is also a theory that there are 9 keys representing each member. my theory is that the key in the end is representing Hyunjin(the boy that was laying on the ground at the end). Chan once mentioned that he has something special prepared for Hyunjin, so who knows maybe its finally time to unlock something using his key. Regarding this album and the song, i dont really understand whats going on, but i think you are right. There is a track on the album called "Road Not Taken" which represents a new path to the future. In their last album Cle 1: Miroh they were fighting for dominance in the city, trying to make world a better place, but at the teaser for Yellow Wood it was shown that they actually lost. so they took the elevator to the Yellow Woods trying to take a new path. in the Yellow Wood teaser, there was a split screen. each showing a different path. in one they took a bus and in the other they stayed at the bus stop. i think they tried to show different types of paths you can take. i feel like this is only the beginning of the whole Cle series and its okay if its still confusing. we still need to see whats gonna happen in the next songs that are to come, so dont be too confused. im hopping you will react to more Stray Kids songs in the future. they are really music geniuses and i believe if you want to understand the whole storyline you should react to Miroh as well. im sure at the end of Cle series the story will be really meaningful so watch out for them cuz Stray Kids are here to take over the Kpop industry update: there is a new theory going around. since we know stray kids took those pills and now are having side effects, someone mentioned that they are actually sleeping now(one of the side effects). everything thats happening ouside of the bus is their hallucinations and hyunjin is probably the only one who realizes whats going on. the top part of the split screen shows that they are sleeping(reality) and the bottom is whats going on in their heads. honestly this is so good, i cant wait for more clues im so, so curious of that the actual storyline is.

The song is mostly about the struggles and doubts of taking the road least traveled. The bus on the main paved road represents the conventional path to success whilst the off road vehicle is the road least taken (See poem: The Road Not taken by Robert Frost).

This will be long comment: Yellow wood (album name) comes from Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" poem (SKiz also have a song with same name). Yellow Wood represents making decisions during the hard times of a persons life. A poem is about a narrator facing two paths and has to choose one, one is described as "grassy" and "wanted wear" (familiar, walked before) and the other with "bent in the undergrowth". Poem ends with: "I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.", not saying if it was a right path or not. Basically it says about uncertainty in making life decisions. Side effects dabbles on that topic, going further that they took harder path and not safer route following others (the other path is shown as them comfortably sitting in a bus, and in Miroh Jisung raps: "I'm avoiding all familiar paths"). In Miroh they were full of confidence saying: "I'll survive in the end whatever it takes" and ready to fight. However, Side effects shows them struggling after facing setbacks, they aren't as confident, they thought it would be easier and one after another they face new challenges and setbacks (closed road, low fuel, flat tire), and it's making them frustrated and anxious. At the end Hyunin is shown as ready to give up but then Stray Kids come and give him encouragement and comfort him, so he goes on. I think Cle series will show all phases and emotions they go through on their journey on path they chose, each key unlocking new phase. Sorry for long comment 😅😅 btw this is my opinion and view on this song btw love your reaction, you have a new subscriber 😊

you’re honestly becoming one of my favorite reactors. i appreciate the respect you have for kpop and the groups you react to!! when you apologize for missing lyrics or not knowing members names yet you can tell how important you’re taking this. so thank you deacs! you’re doing great so far. to me this songs about how sometimes it would be easier to follow someone else’s path (ie: taking the bus) but to do what they want and be individuals and take their own path, it won’t be easy and there will be struggles that seem like they’re impossible to get through, and it’ll be a rough journey but ... in the end they will always have each other and it will be worth it in the end because they will be their true selves and not controlled by other people

They are talking about struggling in society, not only people's struggling but also their struggling in kpop industry. So their lyrics can be reflected by anyone in those situation (psychosis, nervous, anxiety, etc). This song is the continuation of Miroh in Cle 1. If you dont mind, you need to check their series album I Am and Clè. After finishing I Am series, they came to the city in Miroh to do what they think was right. They chose to overtake the city. But like other human being, their choice could be wrong, didn't work well. So they got confused which path to choose. They came to Yellow Wood (refer to poem by Robert Frost). In this path, they feel the side effect that's why they scream that their heads hurt because of the confidence they had before gave them wrong decision (so causing anxiety, stress, etc).

Put it together: Felix says "Get out of the way you all, I'm right, you all wait and see" Hyunjin says "Actually I am scared. Can I do it?" Hyunjin is voicing what Felix is really thinking as he says something completely different.

I BELIEVE they are referencing the poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, as the album title is Clé 2: YELLOW WOOD, and yellow wood is mentioned in the poem. “Two roads diverged in a *yellow wood* and sorry i could not travel both and be one traveler” Their B-side track Road Not Taken also is in reference to this poem. I believe the song is about feeling the side effects of not taking the path often traveled, which also goes in with their group name *Stray* Kids since they’re basically straying from the normal. At the end of the poem, the last line is: “I took the [ road ] less traveled by, and that has made all the difference” I think this has a lot of significance bc they wouldn’t be feeling all of these side effects if they would’ve taken the road most people took; it’s made an obvious difference to them, and it’s basically them acknowledging it. Omg I hope this made sense, it’s sounds like I just started rambling but this all interests me and my english majoring ass a LOT 💀

For starters, you're probably best off with their singles; Hellevator (pre-debut), District 9 (debut), (My Pace was the third), I Am You, and Miroh. There are some excellent Memeful Guides to help you learn the members, but if you've got 10 or so hours to spare, I'd highly recommend watching the Stray Kids survival show from Mnet. That was when JYP picked them to debut, then put them through their paces to make sure they were ready. btw Bang Chan said in an interview that the song was about growing up. They are using the analogy of a drug's side effects as the side effects of trying to conform to society, and the stress of having to act like an "adult" when you aren't ready to stop being a child yet. The voice in the background is literally just reading the list of side effects, it says "Common side effects include: nausea, vomiting, anxiety, etc..."

Tbh I think the best way to understand the lyrics of Stray Kids is watching their Intro vids which are always released before every comeback and finding hints in their teaser vids or teaser imagines. They talk about their thoughts which they had while making the albums so it helps you understand the main ideas. And you can dig deep into the stories of the MVs by linking all the teasers. There are a lot of theories but I think this is the most convincing: About Side Effects: When you choose to do sth, you might be so confident with your choice. But after a while, you start to have "side effects". You will wonder why you struggle so much though it's your choice, you thought it was the best for you but is it really be, what if you choose the others, will you be more successful. And SKZ said that's what they went through sometimes and they knew they were not the only one. So they wrote the song. The story of the MV is about Hyunjin's feeling. They dropped 2 tracklist pics with different words for 2 ver (black and white). Those look like just a normal pics but there were hidden faces. And we found out that was Chan in the black ver and Hyunjin in the other. Chan's words are sth like he didn't hesitate to choose the unknown road, as long as they're together they'll make it their path and he'll try to make sure no one regrets. Hyunjin's are like he didn't know this place but he believes the choice and they'll walk together, and he's sure he won't regret. But his words end with the line "Then again, I saw a strange scenery between the doors". You can see he was not that sure when he saw it. And yes he wasn't sure anymore if the choice was right. In the MV, he was looking around nervously at first while the others were all smiling and excited. Then he was upset and stopped Felix having fun. And when they see the "road closed" signs, he was furious. He fought with Seungmin because Seungmin took pictures like "how you still take pics in this situation". He was scared, he didn't sure if they could do it. He started to doubt himself. He had so many thoughts and it pisses him off. That's why the lyrics are "my head hurts". And this is also the "side effects" of choosing your "road". But after that, the members comforted him. And they continued the journey. In the end, there's the key that might be Hyunjin's key (You can see he has a key in the previous teaser. He looked at his hand holding the key right before Chan put out his key). It symbolizes his own choice. But because he chose to follow Chan, he doesn't need this key anymore. He now fully believes in their choice so he threw his key and walked away with his members. (Sorry. Eng is not my language. But I tried my best uwu)

I've heard a few people say that it's supposed to be about the side effects of growing up and becoming an adult. Which makes the line "Maybe it hurts more because I thought it'd be easy" make a lot of sense. A lot of kids are looking forward to growing up and then actually being an adult is just filled with difficulty and struggle and that hope of freedom in the future, makes that struggle hurt even more.

Your reactions are the best bdjcjdks Btw I recommend watching the MIROH mv because this year they're having another trilogy, Clé 1: MIROH, Clé 2: YELLOW WOOD (which came out today) and Clé 3 probably later this year. They also have a pre debut track called Hellevator that talks about depression and the "I am" trilogy, where they try to find out who they really are I am: NOT - debut with District 9, they realize they're not who they thought they were. In the mv you'll see they're like automatons, robots controlled by society. But they want to rebel and escape that reality. I am: WHO? - with My Pace. They try to figure out what's their true selves but still have no answer. The lyrics are about comparing yourself to other people feeling jealous but then accepting the fact that we all have our own pace. I am: YOU - with I am You, my fav title track. They still haven't found the true answer but for now they know they can rely on each other. With the Clé trilogy we see the story moving forward. We saw them going up from hell and reaching district 9. Now they have to go on and open the doors they have in front of them with the keys (clé in French). In Miroh we see that skz are getting ready to rebel against society and in the lyrics they say something like "it's not hard in this jungle (this new city), it's me who entered it, I'm okay" so they are finally confident and ready to fight. HOWEVER there's Side Effects. For this one I still don't have a clear theory, I might want to read something online first and watch their interviews!! the song is about choices. it’s about the side effects of choosing the path they took. that’s why their intro is road not taken and the album is called yellow wood. in side effects, it speaks of what they felt or the side effects of choosing that road, their thoughts, and maybe even regrets. with stray kids, to find the meaning, you should look at almost everything. they have clues in their track unveiling, the title, the comeback’s name, and everything.

Not sure if anyone has already said this but I'd like to recommend Stray Kids - M.I.A, it's about missing your 'old' self and not recognising yourself anymore and confronting yourself about it

Heres a quick understanding of the MV. The album name is Yellow Wood which is a symbolism from a poem which means you are taking the road which are not chosen by most people. So, this MV 'side effects' is actually telling the side effects that will affect you when you take the road not taken but in the end, you will still reach the destination which is the goal. So, it not only include anxiety that you say, it also include other problems such as insomnia, doubt in one choice and others. But the main msg is to tell us that no matter what road we take, never give up and just keep moving on

the song basically is about not being sure whether the road they took is the right one. they're being swayed, get headaches from he stress and have other side effects like anxiety etc. I think people in different circumstances can relate to this. One day you are sure of what to do and the next you question that decision. and part of that is being swayed by your changing surroundings or people around you. At least that's how I interpret the lyrics ^^

There is a whole theory that explain the acting, the things being said in the chorus, and the lyrics also tie into it. I suggest searching clè:2 yellow wood theories and read a few.

i think side effects is the contrary of victory song.. and i guess they were going somewhere and hyunjin had an actual anxiety attack and he flipped out but in the end the members came back to him and picked him up and showed him that they're always with him. and oh my god side effects makes me cry, literally. stray kids make me cry because they just hit my weak point with their lyrics. and the song representing an anxiety attack is actually what i can imagine

You'll understand it once you've read the poem "Road Not Taken" which is also the intro of this album. It's about choosing a path: one of them is looking easy and the other one is harder with pills and side effects like moodswings, fights, anxiety etc. and thats the path they chose in this MV. The other path is the one scene where they're sleeping in the bus. Please keep reacting to Stray Kids!

I think the song has its own independent meaning that aligns with what you were talking about, like coping with anxiety, and tells a separate story in the context of their past music videos and the storyline they're creating. For example, the bus is the same as the one in District 9, and this mv is supposed to represent an alternate timeline (this is more apparent in the mv teasers and the album title which came from the poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost).

The album is called yellow Wood and that name is based on a poem about choosing what road to take and desciding to take the less traveled one. I think the song is about after they've taken this road and they're unsure if they took the right descision and having side effects of their doubts and anxiety and stuff all come together. Idk for sure tho, I'm still a bit confused by this one too.

The concept of this is linked to the album cle 1: miroh, where they have now moved on from that place. They basically have a development story with their 'I am' albums; not, who, and you. So if you want to really grasp what is going on, I would try go through them all. Their concepts are really dope 👌

Also the album is the the second of the Clé (key in French) series, the first being Miroh. In the unveil teaser for the series we saw 9 keys, two which have been shown(one in Miroh and one in the teaser for Yellow Wood). Perhaps it's the third key. Miroh is supposed to be a place. The name comes from the Korean word for maze : romanised as 'miro'. It's a new place for Stray Kids to discover and depending on how they navigate it, it could be either Hell or Heaven, hence the H. Edit: If you watch the YW trailer, Hyunjin (the guy lying down in the end) has his own key and it seems like he will leave the group to be on his own but he leaves his key behind. 9 or none

Based of what i understood from the mv and lyrics and teasers: In the first teaser , they are quite happy and bubbly and have to intention of taking the bus to ''new world''. And then the screen is split in 2 showing two different actions. The driver's tattoo seems a little suspicious . When they get inside the bus we see a happy Jeongin and a kinda worried Hyunjin. The MV starts with them not taking the bus as shown in the teaser. However, they seem bright and assured they made the right choice and proceed down the other direction.Only Hyunjin seems hesitant, his smile kinda fades away and he walks a little behind the other boys, doubting their choice. In the first part of the choreo, you can see two moons in the sky which can be a symbol of two things:a magnificent holiday or total unhappiness. They find their ride,an old truck. We see Felix and Hyunjin together and by my interpretation: Felix is sure and excited about their choice while Hyunjin is not.The lyrics in this scene reflect that : Felix represents the outer conviction and bravado one has when making a decision ,while Hyunjin represents the inner insecurities and fears. Later the boys realize that the trip wouldn't be as easy as they thought cause they are racing with time to try and arrive at the location before they run out of fuel. The mood changes . However Felix remains enthusiastic, excited trying to get a better view of the scenery, but Hyunjin (still worried) irritably pulls him back, building pressure in the process. Their plans completely change when they see that the road to their destination has been blocked. They are in the middle of nowhere, without enough fuel to go back. Only Seungmin doesn't seem to understand the gravity of the situation and is nonchalantly taking photos as they would in a pleasant trip (or at least ,this is what Hyunjin thinks). Hyunjin snaps starting a fight, the members rushing to separate them. A map on the ground reveals that there is a breach in the fence, making the boys pile up in the van again and proceeding onwards on their journey. As they drive off, and aerial view of the bus is shown,as if someone is watching them. Night falls and the boys grow tired, especially Minho ,who has been driving for hours. Jisung spots their destination out of the window ad smiles ,believing that they would reach there in no time. The vehicle then stops cause of a flat tire and the boys are utterly stranded, which gives them some minutes to reflect : Jeongin assuring Hyunjin that they aren't angry at him and Minho comforting a guilty Felix (he was the one who decided to ride the truck and not bus). Something approaches from a distance, and its the bus they could have taken. For the first time ,we can see what i could've been like :peacefully asleep without a care. They are give the chance to ride the bus again but they kinda realize that something was wrong. In the bus they looked peaceful, too peaceful to be exact,as if someone with nefarious intentions is watching them. They quickly run away from the bus down to the field to escape from the people watching them (probably trying to kidnap/get rid of them). As they finally escape ,Hyunjin is laying alone on the grass, wracked with sorrow and shame for being the one that wanted to get on the bus (and potentially get them all in danger) . The other boys gather around him with smiles in their faces, reassuring him that they don't have hard feelings towards him. As they walk away in the middle of nowhere, they have lost the opportunity to reach a new world, but as long as they have each other it's all okay.A key lies alone in the pond. Possibly a new key to a new world, which means there is still hope for them. By connecting this MV to the Miroh MV, I'm guessing the people supposedly watching them in this MV,might be related to the ''politicians '' in the beginning of Miroh, where Stray Kids bring the revolution. This is just my interpretation and theory behind the MV, so there's nothing for sure.

I wouldn’t consider myself a full stay (since i don’t know their names and have only heard Miroh and Side Effects), but I think there may be a connection between the two. In Miroh, they’re talking about how they’re ready to take on any challenge and they know what they’re about to face and they’re going to face it head on (they also talk a lot about the jungle in Miroh if I’m not mistaken), but now since they’re in the jungle and they can’t figure out what to do or what is happening, the “side effects” of the false confidence they forced upon themselves in the city in Miroh (which was what that guy was looking at in that truck during the bridge of the song) and all the times they brushed off some sort of setback or injury are taking effect and they have begun to distrust and question themselves and each other and they made it pretty clear that they were quite distressed by this difficulty in the chorus since the only line is “my head hurts!” So they’re probably broken up about that. Idk again I’m new so this might not make much sense but that’s what I saw in this

At first I thought this wasn't as good of a comeback as miroh (WHICH YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY WATCH, I THINK YOU WOULD GET HYPE ASF) because of how seemingly disjointed the song was - I had a somewhat hard time following the structure - but now I'm honestly completely obsessed with it. There's also SO many interpretations to the meaning of it, I've loved reading peoples theories!

personally, color coded lyric videos helped me learn their names (same with other groups). the idea is that there is a picture of each member, and each member is "assigned" a color. whenever they sing, the lyrics will be in that color, and it will show their picture and usually their name. the lyrics are typically in romanization, then the pronunciation, then english, so you can try to sing along as well as studying the members' faces. not only that, but you can also watch funny videos, which help you get their faces memorized, or videos like "woojin cute moments" or "jisung being sarcastic". sorry for the long comment, but i hoped this helped :)

Ok so this information won't be much different from what you'll find on their kprofiles, but I'll never turn down a chance to share about my boys so here it goes. Members: Bang Chan- leader, vocalist, rapper, dancer, producer, all around talented guy. There's a reason the other members call him "Genius Leader Bang Chan". He, along with two other members known as 3racha together, compose, produce, and write the lyrics for 99% of their music. He was a trainee for 8 years before Stray Kids debuted and struggled a lot because of that. He's talked pretty openly about his struggles with mental health and has told us Stays (the fandom) that whenever we're struggling we just have to find him and he'll do his best to listen. Basically he's just amazing. Kim Woojin- vocalist. He's basically like the dad of the group and is a big teddy bear. He has an incredible voice and most high notes you hear will be him. He also plays guitar and piano and serenades Stays all the time. Lee Minho (Lee Know)- dancer, vocalist, rapper. He used to be a backup dancer for BTS during their Wings era. He was a vocalist until JYP himself told him to try rapping and he killed it first try. Now he does both. Seo Changbin- rapper. He has a very distinct voice and you can always pick him out as the one with the deeper raspy voice that is rapping insanely fast. He is another member of 3racha. He can also sing really well but we don't get to see that too often. Hwang Hyunjin- dancer, rapper. Often also known as the visual, but he's so much more than that. People are usually surprised when he raps because they don't expect that from such a pretty face. Han Jisung (Han)- rapper, vocalist. He's another all-rounder. He's an incredible rapper but he also has the voice and vocal range of a main vocalist. In their predebut song Hellevator, he hits the high notes that the vocalist were afraid to try. He is the other member of 3racha. Lee Felix- dancer, rapper. He has an insanely deep voice that does not fit his face at all. Listen to Victory Song to get a good example of how deep his voice it. In contrast, when he sings (which is rarely) his voice is soft and higher pitched. Kim Seungmin- vocalist. He has my personal favorite voice in the whole group, it's so smooth and pretty. He's very loud and kind of weird and is often called puppy. Yang Jeongin (I.N.)- maknae, vocalist. He has the highest pitched voice and you can tell how much his voice has improved and matured even just in the past year and a half. Everyone in the group (and everyone else) is completely whipped for him because he's so adorable. Some basics about the group: JYP didn't create the group. Bang Chan was given the responsibility to make a group himself, so he hand picked each member, using 3racha as a base because they had been making music together for years. They had a survival show where JYP gave them tasks like producing a song and busking, etc. and members could get eliminated. Minho and Felix were eliminated during the show, but brought back in the last episode because JYP saw that they weren't the same unless they were all together. That's why you'll often see "9 or none" in reference to stray kids, it's from the show. They now have 6 mini albums, including their predebut Mixtape which includes all of their songs from the survival show. Their albums are all connected and show a journey, and their main music videos have a continuing story line. They also have performance videos for most bsides, or what they call a "street version" video where it's basically them with handheld cameras goofing off in different places. Those are a lot of fun and really show their personalities. Anyways, that was a lot of information, sorry. If you made it this far, please react to basically any Stray Kids song because they literally don't have any bad songs.
