A bit of a tip: Green lights don't make your mechs look good _or_ evil, but they make it look much more militaristic. My theory is the association with Night Vision Goggles

your tip about recalculating bone roll saved me! Most other rigging tutorials skip over that bit and just say to change the pole angle - but that didn't rectify the weird angles so animation was a nightmare. Cheers!

@@CriticalGiants Sorry for the delay, I wanted to work through the whole tutorial before responding. As far as which parts I'd like to see more of, I would say I'd like to see all the aspects in greater detail. I felt I learned something at each stage of the tutorial. I would love to see more time spent on the design aspect. It would also be nice to see more time spent on modelling reusable kitbash elements. The texturing part was great. I really liked the quick camouflage node setup you showed. I also really enjoyed the rigging and animation side of things. I barely ever rig, but found it quite fun. Seeing the mech come to life with animation was great. On the animation and rigging side of things, it would be neat to see how you would rig and animate retractable parts. I really enjoyed this tutorial and can't wait to see what you come up with in a longer form Gumroad video! Great work!

You shouldn't do the UV Mapping using Smart UV Project, the functionnality is "fast" but the UV Islands are pretty bad. You would have better results by doing the UV Mapping using the classic way and maybe an addon like UVPackMaster Pro 2 to sort you islands.

The bone symmetry doesnt work for me and I think its related to your bone structure changing for some reason and you dont mention that youve changed it. When you drag out the third bone it creates its own structure but then magically it's parented correctly in the hierarchy.
@flame_eh2 жыл бұрын
It was to do with the axis that you have built your shape on, mine was facing a different direction and thus my mirror modifier interacted differently to yours

@Lejar69723 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the turorial. I don't understand one thing though: at what point did you make the mirrored legs become their own objects (and how)? I'm at the stage where I'm assigning vertex groups to the armature but one bone is moving both legs because they are still mirrored.

Hi. May you help me? I make the same process and nothing happens. When I press Ctrl+Shift+V my model changes its direction but doesn't paste the flipped pose. Any suggestion?
@CriticalGiants3 жыл бұрын
First of you have to make sure your bones are mirrored perfectly, with correct naming .L and .R in the end, then you should be in Pose Mode, select all the bones press CTRL + C and then go to a new frame and press CTRL+SHIFT+V. If this does not work, then try building a simpler rig first, and see if you can replicate it there. This should work, I would guess something is wrong with your rig if it doesn't work.
