A small piece of information about Infosys. If someone had invested rupees 1 lakh in Infosys on 1st January 1999, it wouldn't be rupees 1.29 crore today. It would be 133 times this amount, that is, roughly rupees 172 crores!! I know that's a huge number, even I was shocked. This is because of something called bonus shares. Sometimes companies give free shares to existing shareholders and Infosys has done this 8 times since it came out with IPO. A lesser known perk of being a long term player.

I get what you're saying @Nitin. Even I was wondering if I made any mistake. But the ipo price was ₹95 per share. In Jan 1999 the price was ₹11.59 and I calculated it for rupees 1 lakh investment. I also tried attaching my excel sheet, but it's not working.

Agree with Ankur. From the last 1 month Market has been very much range bound 15600 - 15900. 15600 still stand to be a very strong support zone and breaking this will be very difficult especially with unlocking happening. It's be best time to enter the market. Buy at dips 15600 15700 range.

I have been following the same strategy, I but stocks and keep them for a long term. Generally after 2-3 months I sell about 30% of them and put a trigger to buy those back at low price. While calculating the buy back, I account all the taxes and fees. A small profit but worth riding the wave as I already have major chunk of the same stock in my portfolio.

Hi I differ with your suggestion of booking profits in mutual funds when investing for long term. My STP is for a period of 5 years and my funds are earning decent profits. Should I redeem some units and put money in bank and then re- invest or redeem some profit back into liquid fund which will then be used to fund purchase of more units during low periods. Wont that complicate the entire concept of investing?

One stock should have 5% max of the total portfolio. Let's say you have 1,00,000/- , then 5000/- should be in one stock. Dividing 1,00,000 by 5000, we get 20. You should have 20 stocks in a portfolio worth 1 lakh. Use this way to calculate.

10:20 not totally agreed with booking partial profit in bull markets because in a bull market there is continuous highs and each high is broken one after another.. so no one knows the exact top. When you sell, it may be an all time high but it may happen that in the correction it never touched those levels
