Fun fact: Since that was their 10th anniversary and SM didn't plan to make a comeback, they made this with their own money. When the MV was released, SM unexpectedly took down the video and re-uploaded it to put the logo.

And it was the most expensive MV at the time.

The song is actually one of their biggest hits and the album started their transition from EDM and ballads to funky retro pop which has become their staple ever since.

@@-Pam RIIZE had some funky songs ("Get a Guitar" and "Talk Saxy") that felt like they were the sons of SuJu, but suddenly did a really bland techno song ("Impossible") like what seems to be the next trend.

It's not a version, it was the trailer for the album. But yes it's hilarious.

This song really should have gotten a better promotion, since this is a bop and a half~ It is one of my top 10 favourite songs in their discography, and it was during a special time in their history, since it was their 10 year anniversary. SM being SM, they didn't want to allow Super Junior to release music for whatever reason, so they said, "Screw you guys, we'll just use our own money and do it for the fans." That's how you know that you truly love the fans on such a special occasion.

Thanks!! The performance video is also great! and the promos are just pure SJ! 💙

Most fans say they like the performance video better an the live versions, probably because of the freestyle part that is different every time, but I like both versions. Interestingly Korean media - mvs, movies, tv dramas - are obsessed with heists (SuJu themselves also had the same theme in "Black Suit" of course). Probably due to the great social inequality with no welfare system, the poor like to fantasize about stealing from the rich. Siwon and Kangin in that part with the vintage film version look could be in a real full action movie (and Siwon often actually is, of course). Heechul's little solo is surprisingly smutty and exactly about what he's hinting at with his tongue. When he doesn't participate Eunhyuk takes over this part. I can't help liking the kinky part with Leeteuk being bent over by the police on the car and the female devil brandishing that nightstick. He looks like a dandy who ran away with the cash register because he spent to much money on suits and women. Desperately want to see him do more acting. Also like the part where our "angel" Teukie practically crawls after the devil and Siwon tries to stop him, but not to keep him out of trouble, rather because our choir boy wants the devil too. Brilliant.

@@-Pam Sometimes comments just don't show up, it's a technical bug on YT, so I'll try again. Did you ever check out the lyrics of Heechul's rap? Oh my! When he's not performing Eunhyuk takes over, but I think it fits Heechul much better. :) The devil with that tail is a symbol of the "phallic woman" (that's a Freudian technical term), ie a woman who is very dominant and in that sense "masculine". Note how our angel Teukie crawls after her almost on his knees, or how she brandishes that nightstick while he and Yesung are bent over on the hood by the police. Love Leeteuk's three piece suit in this, and also his boyish outfit with the shorts, he looks like a dandy who spent too much money on wine, women and song and hence runs off with the cash register. The video is one of many Korean mvs, movies and TV dramas about heists, it seems to be a theme due to great social inequality and no welfare system.

Funfact: many elf hate this mv bcs min hee jin put minor (the actress) as love interest. That's why the performance video have more views than the actual mv.
@aligensa8 ай бұрын
Not a "fun" fact. But was that known at the time? The actress doesn't look underage (not doubting that she may have been, just saying that the viewers couldn't have known without further information).
@kl28948 ай бұрын
Never heard that until today. I just like the performance video because it's fun.
@aligensa8 ай бұрын
@@kl2894 I did a bit of research. It seems the information was out at the time, and SuJu themselves even expressed discomfort about it, but it's hard to know how many people knew. It got some traction again recently in connection with accusations against Min Hee Jin regarding New Jeans, along with several other examples. Someone claimed it was only possible because the actress was a foreigner. I don't think that's true, because age of consent in Korea was 14 at the time (not the same as being a minor), it was raised to 16 a few years ago and recently to 21 (same age as voting etc), so first Korea was among the lowest (in Japan it was 13 and still is as far as I know) to the highest. Since maturity varies with culture and individuals, it's not as easy to set an appropriate age as some people seem to believe. Another aspect is that many Asian countries don't have the child labour laws that the west does (connected with the fact that they don't have a welfare system). SK is currently discussing a law preventing minors from debuting in Kpop, which would also be extreme, because obviously the USA for example does have exceptions for the entertainment industry (otherwise there could be no kids in films etc). And there would still be minors as trainees. That said, more important in this particular case, whether the role was inappropriate for the actress or not (eg it might be worth pointing out that she probably doesn't even touch lips with Siwon, as was usual in Korean TV productions at the time), at least she was not recognizable as underage in the video, that would have been questionable in a different way, and most of the accusations against Min Hee Jin were about that, sexualising minors by how they are presented. The sad truth is that fields where kids are numerous and vulnerable do attract a number of people with questionable dispositions (entertainment, church, sports etc). The entertainment industry is esp prone because sex is part of its appeal, and adults create products both with and for kids and teenagers. That's no different in the west: Nickelodeon and Disney have had some extremely disturbing cases. Many child stars have psychological issues later in life (not only due to sexualisation and abuse, but all kinds of demands and even "rewards" such as public adulation that most kids aren't yet equipped to handle). A different issue that many Kpop videos have is presenting (adult) white women as the trophy girl even when they arent targeting the west. Its not just in sexy roles, as if they were regarded as more free in their behavior, it could just as well be the innocent love interest. It seems to imply that they are regarded the "ideal", ie as more attractive than Asian women. That's also sad.
@kl28948 ай бұрын
@@aligensa I did a quick search about it myself. Apparently Leeteuk said that the girl's mother was the same age as him. That doesn't sound like he was very comfortable with it. She looks young in photos, but not in the video itself thankfully. The mother was supposedly on set while they filmed. I'm not quite sure what the whole thing says about her judgement. I remember one of the members of Bigbang saying years ago that they often had to use foreign girls in their videos. It wasn't so much that foreign girls were the ideal, but more that they were trying to avoid trouble with the fans and the public in general. By having foreigners in their videos, the group weren't a threat to the morality of Korean girls. Also, no one expected them to actually date foreign girls either, so using foreigners was just overall less 'threatening' to the Korean public.
@aligensa8 ай бұрын
@@kl2894 Interesting. That's what I meant though when I said that it might be to avoid showing Korean women as bad girls, but as I said it's not just bad girls. Maybe they think that Korean women would be less jealous of foreigners, but I don't quite understand that reasoning either. And many Koreans are against relationships with foreigners, so even just showing it, whether realistic or not, is weird too. One of the SuJu members once even said his ideal type was a foreigner, I think it was Donghae. As for Leeteuk's remark it could be read various ways, it depends on how he said it. Since haters have accused him of liking younger women (even though his only confirmed relationship before debut was with a woman who was older than he was) I didn't want to go there. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and interpret it like you did.
