Great vid Daniel and tacos look good! Going to try that fish batter recipe on the local species here in Southern California. I also recommend lightly toasting the tortilla on a hot skillet for a couple minutes. If you do it right, you can get the tortilla to soften up for wrapping while also adding a crunch to the exterior! Make sure to flip over to other side every 10-20 seconds depending on how hot the skillet is.

If you are planning to go there again and you'd like to share the travel expenses and a fish and chips at Captains, you'll be more than welcome. I live in London.

When you dive down do you hold some air in your mouth to get a pinch of "Frog Breathing"? aka Glossopharyngeal breathing. I've always wondered this when watching people who dive down with a snorkel for long periods.
@lauraura27093 жыл бұрын
Nope, I think freedivers use it tho but it is dangerous as lungs will expand and it could cause some damage when ascending. I personally never force breathing when going deep.
@philipbohi9833 жыл бұрын
First thing, make it a habit to remove your snorkel from your mouth on or before descent (research the many reasons why if you don’t know). Some spearos “pack” their lungs like you mentioned, either using the tongue like a piston with face down and snorkel in the mouth, while others will breathe up on their back like a competition freediver. I don’t do either because it’s uncomfortable (until I get down to the fourth or fifth equalization). But I will grab an extra mouthful at the tuck to push in on the drop to replace the air used to compensate my mask. In freediving there is virtually no risk of lung damage on a typical ascent due to expanding air since a) you’re coming up with LESS than what you took down (unlike Scuba), because you use and lose some of your air to equalize your sinuses and mask; but mostly b) as you ascend it’s super easy to release a little if you want. I personally like to swim up with some bubbles, so as I get shallower and start to feel the lung expansion I blow a little bit of air. Oh, on the “remove the snorkel” thing…you’ll find lots and lots of info on the dangers, but for me it’s just easier to equalize since I use Frenzel and it requires some weird facial movements and sounds (for me anyways, I’ve videoed myself doing it and it’s like a Jim Carrey impersonation😆). Another thing is that the bubbles can spook the fish - I once was shallow (maybe 35-40’) and lining up a shot on a big mutton snapper when I turned my head a bit and a few bubbles went “blurble blurble blibble” from the snorkel still in my mouth and the damn thing instantly turned away to angle I couldn’t shoot. My buddy watched it happen, and gave me a huge load of grief. Then he went and shot the fish. Lesson learned.
