I usually use audacity to record myself playing some instrument. Today when I woke up I just thought for no reason if it possible to make a track using audacity only. I had the thought only in my head! I don't know if that is a brand new mind reading google algorithm or just a coincidence, but KZbin have recommended to me the video answering the very question all of a sudden and now you have a new subscriber. What an amazing world we live! :) Ok, now I go to watch the rest of your content.

I totally understand what you mean! Yesterday I woke up and after a very long time of procrastination Ive collected the right mindset to go on creating - I started making the music Ive always wanted! Then when I made food I started YT for this break and got suggested "How To Be Creative: How an Artist Turns Pro" by Storytellers, which totally summed up all my thoughts around it! Just why on that certain day did I get a video that was nearly 2 years old? That's crazy! edit: btw when I wrote this comment, yours had 42 likes xD

Try to make music using only notepad. PS: HOW IT WORKS: First line must be [ASCII XXHz, Channels: YY, Samples: ZZ, Flags: 1] Replace XX with the samplerate you will use,YY with the amount of channels (1 for mono and 2 for stereo) and ZZ is the amount of samples the song will have, the length of the song. Then you will have the other lines, each line will have an single integer number between 32767 and -32768, the amount of extra lines will be the amount of samples or the amount of samples multiplied by 2 if stereo. You can use the audio editor called goldwave to listen to it and then convert to wave, flac or whateaver audio file format you want.

LMMS is just a little less intuitive and takes more getting used to than a "prettier" DAW like FL Studio, but yes, by my own experience I can assure you that LMMS is just almost as good as a paid DAW and is EXTREMELY POWERFUL to the point it'd be really hard to tell the difference in the finished product. I just love it!

- Make a beat using fasttracker 2 or similarly obsolete tracker software. - Make beats using maximum polyphony of 1, 2 and 3 voices progressively, while still including as many of the normal ingredients as possible in each instance. - choose either 1, 2 or 3 samples. Creating a beat using only these and the tools included in either Simpler or the FL internal sampler. - Do all of the above in a single track for the ultimate challenge. When i first started making music i used audacity like this to create completely unlistenable avante garde noise music. Many years and many, many DAWs later this video really brought back memories... Mostly of how tedious and unstable audacity is. Congratulations on making something so enjoyable! Your videos are great!

LMMS has the 3xOSC and also ZynAddSubFX as stock plug-ins. That'd make things extremely easy. It'd be the same as using a paid DAW with powerful VSTs pretty much, it's at that level, even if it's harder to learn at first.

nice job. I started with a Roland MV-8000 drum machine but as of the last 2 years I've been making all my beats in Audacity. find it quicker & easier actually. cool to see other people using it, it boils down to who's making the music rather than what you've invested $$ wise for your studio gear.

That sounded great. I haven't opened Audacity in a while. I used to love making sounds from scratch. I should have written stuff down, though. I can't remember how I came up with a trombone sound. Or the electric guitar. Or a violin. I like the pitch bend feature that can be inserted into a track. It's not done the same way as in a DAW, though. And, yes, it does add to the tedium. But the results are often worth it. I think I will open the program today. I have some ideas. Since I like your content so much, I should subscribe. Thanks.

I think you are confusing limiting with tedious. True, you don't need expensive tools, but Audacity is not a very good program to make music. You can use it, but it's not a DAW. There are free DAWs out there if you want to try one. Reaper and Tracktion come to mind. If you have a Mac, Garageband is included as a free app and it's bloody good. Using Audacity to make music is sort of like using a Corvette to haul lumber. It can be done, but urrgh!!! in the time you take to make one track in Audacity, you could have made several songs in any other DAW, including the free ones. Also, can you do Midi in Audacity, AU and VST's? No. Audacity's strength is that it's an audio editing and recoding tool. It's not a creative tool.

I plan on learning how to, and eventually making songs only using the sounds in a video game. For example, I was planning to use only sounds from the first Five Nights at Freddy's game. Only sounds from that specific game. Just pitch shift stuff and add effects. FNaF was an example and a several years ago, I found a site that gave you every sound in FNaF 1, 2, 3, and 4 which is the primary reason FNaF will be the first game I use for this project. I'm only telling you this in case maybe you want to try something like this as a challenge.

Yeesh. I was thinking this wasn't going to work at all. Somehow you pulled off something half decent. Then again, with how tedious of a process as it appeared to be, I still feel Audacity is a pretty useless program.

its not useless as a sound recorder or recording editor, but other then that yeah it is.

It's not useless, but it's definitely not made for music creation the way Logic or Ableton etc was made. It's an audio editor and recorder. Like I told someone, using Audacity to make music from scratch is like using a Corvette to haul lumber. It can be done, but trucks tend to do that much better.

Danny Valentino True, but generally if you're editing audio it's for one of two things. Music, which you'd need a better DAW to actually make a song efficiently, or for Video Editing, which you'd need a good video editing program like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere which both already allow you to edit audio far more efficiently than Audacity if you know what you're doing. That pretty much makes Audacity obselete, even if it IS free.

I've got some pretty nice challenges, take a look: 1.make a beat only with 3xosc again but without any modulation matrix (which means he can't make drums with only 3xosc) 2.make a beat only with samples, Edison unavailable

This surpised the heck out of me! I literally only use Audicity to change MP3/MP4 to .WAV files.. Maybe add a bass boost or mess with the levels of a song; but you literally made a backround out of it bro! Much love, tedious indeed 👌

Bruh you are cold AF. I didn't even know this was possible and I've been using Audacity for audio manipulation and file conversion this whole time lmao. Doesn't look as intuitive as FL or other DAWs, but still, damn!

Way back in the 90s, when the Commodore Amiga was the pinnacle of homebrew "multimedia", I created a precussion sound by _drawing_ in the wave editor. I don't remember what post-processing I applied after that, but I did use it in a short drum loop, spread out over all 8 channels that my sequencer was able to offer.

Dang, somebody needs to make a music studio program that is focused on generating instruments by manually editing the waveform for the instrument, and easily allowing you to plop the notes down. Very similar to an old style tracker program, but much more user friendly.
