Hi everyone! Today I'm back with a movie reaction (whaaat?) ♥️🎥🎞️ I absolutely love movies and going to the cinema and the post-theater discussions that I always have with my dad.
Movie reactions have been my favorite thing to watch on KZbin as of late, but I know they're not for everyone. Here are some other movie reaction channels that I'd recommend checking out. These are my favorites:

Dante is a Xoloitzcuntle hairless Mexican dog, for the Aztecs this dog's mission was to accompany the souls of the dead in their journey into eternity.

Speaking of that and also her own comment (how she said this was maybe the only time she watched it without tearing up)... yup that happens (as do other patterns too!). I don't (or especially in the past, didn't) cry easily at all... the first movie that ever strongly started to trigger tears from me was "Inside Out" and that was even with my roommates present (I usually can't cry at all if anyone else is there lol). I did suppress tears that time but it was actually painful to do so since it was such a strong trigger! That left me actually WANTING to still let it out (probably because, as I researched later, feel-good brain endorphins can come along with tears), so actually became a tearjerker seeker after that :P It actually took a few years to find another movie that had that same effect ("Interstellar"). It took longer to find one that made me cry upon RE-watches. The first one to do that (and still holds the record) was "Nimona" (at 15 times!). "Hachi- a dog's tale" triggered me upon 5-6 rewatches. I still haven't cried to a movie with any fellow viewers SEEING me do so, BUT I came close during a re-watch of "The Land Before Time" (with my mom). I'd happened to have a couple drinks prior, so my inhibitions were way down (lol). The room also happened to be arranged such that, if I learned forward a little, an object would block me from my mom's view. I wasn't sure how I was going to react to *those scenes* (and actually didn't much care, either... because, well... alcohol, lol), but as it turned out, during *those scenes*, I learned forward a bit and everything [silently] just gushed out!

Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican tradition. Has nothing to do with Halloween.

Yes, you are right. In Sound of Music, after his wife died, Captain Von Trapp had no more music in the house. Until Maria. Tiny hint, when DeLaCruz first is gong to give Miguel his blessing, but is interrupted by Hector- the petal does not glow. So you are right, the blessing would not have worked. I was surprised by the twist villain, but not really shocked; the way he answered Miguel’s question about whether he ever had any regrets, I knew he wasn’t a good role model, though I would still never have pegged him for a murderer.

I think people is represented in the afterworld as they are most remembered. The (Precolumbian) Mexican tradition of día de muertos has to do with how they thought teir love ones continue their journey. And, for the people remaining in the living world to cherish their memories. I find it quite comforting. I am Mexican American. I have been settling an Ofrenda lately. It is a nice experience to share stories with my kids about my dad and grandparents that are no longer with us. Thanks for the video

Hey y'all! 💛 long form content, specifically movie reactions, have been my favorite thing to watch on KZbin recently, so I thought it might be fun to post some myself! Funnily enough, this kind of turned into a try not to react for me, as I didn’t want my dad to catch onto my opinions about some of the characters if he looked at my face in the viewfinder 🤫 (I love this movie, particularly for its emotional chords (literally and metaphorically ☺️) and twists! I think this might’ve been the only time I watched it without tearing up!) And special shout-out/warm welcome to my dad for being on the channel! 🥰♥️ Thank you for watching our first movie reaction! Dante is (xoloitzcuintli) a hairless mexican dog its was believed that they guide the souls to the underworld (mictlan) An ofrenda does not have to have a picture of a loved one

Using the rules outlined in the movie, Pictures are just the most modern interpretation, you could have used portraits or drawings, the 'updated' technology used in the land of the dead is also a reflection of the living world, in the past they wouldn't have used a facial scanner because the technology hadn't existed, and honestly the movie shows that the screening process before the bridge isn't necessary for crossing - in the beginning Hector physically can't walk on the floral bridge, he just sinks into it so I"m guessing before technology got added to the land of the dead, thats how people knew whether or not they had a portrate on an Ofrenda. Honestly scanners were most likely implemented to keep desparate skeletons like Hector from falling into oblivion while trying to cross the floral bridge (maybe how ghosts could come to be?) . I have to say I love the add in that in order to remain 'remembered' your stories had to be passed down by someone who knew you while you were alive. It gives the land of the dead both a sense of turnover, and a sense that immortality /can/ be acheived if your story is always passed down.

I think the rules have always been the same in the land of the dead. As long as the person was remembered, he wouldn’t vanish. Before cameras/portraits/paintings, the only way to remember the actual person, was for the person that knew that person in life, to be alive and cognitive. The photos are some type of loophole where more ppl that never met you, can also remember you because they have an exact image of you. I think.

Nice reaction to this sweet film. Might be fun if you two watched/reacted to The Sound of Music (and to refresh your memories). ps. It's assumed that Miguel collected his Abuelita's shoe after she threw it at Dante. I think as one of you was commenting about the shoe, she was saying to Miguel, "Now, go get my shoe" (just after "...they'll follow you forever" if you name a street dog). Hence why she had it in the next scene. ☺

Heh...Miguel can draw a picture of Hector? I can draw a picture of my daughter and post it here, but it would be not much better than a stick figure! hah Maybe if Miguel went to art school...but that would be many years down the road.

They don't die in the most comfortable form, it doesn't take a genius to understand that they stay the form they die in. Hector stayed young because he was poisoned wheb he was young and Coco died of age and stayed that way.

i did a lil research about ofrendas, but im not an expert so def do some more research on your own, but before photography, ofrendas often had items from the person who died instead of a photo, or making sugar skulls (calavera) that represented that person after they passed (created by the Mexican printmaker, José Guadalupe Posada). -- Photography is more recent of a tradition that probably stemmed from the mythos that if u took a photo of yourself, a piece of your soul was taken for the photo (its why vampires cant show up in film in older stories) and that its easier to remember a person with an image than just stories from their life, but again my info is surface and i definitely want to research and learn more

Hola @elisheser. Del día de muertos is very interesting and I was glad to learn more about it by watching Coco. In your opinion what aspects of the tradition did the story get right and what aspects did they get wrong?

Ciertamente acertó en muchas cosas la película, incienso, cazuelas grandes de comida en la ofrenda y las calaveras de azúcar, la historia está bien realizada, se enfoca en una familia que vive en un lugar rural, yo vengo de una familia así, para nosotros la familia es primero, crecemos en un ambiente familiar muy lindo (así como aparece en la película), nosotros cuidamos de nuestros adultos mayores en nuestra casa hasta que ellos dejan de existir, lo único que puedo decir que falto en la película fue que nosotros en la noche llevamos grupos musicales al cementerio en donde los músicos tocan toda la noche, así como viste el cementerio en la película es como se ve el día de los muertos, esos tres días el cementerio cobra vida lleno de luces, comida y música, nosotros jamás olvidamos a nuestra familia que esta con nosotros, siempre los llevamos en el corazón, si tienes mas dudas puedes escribirme.

Kinda funny how the both of you kept mixing up the deaths between Hector & Pedro. Perhaps the giant bell didn't crush Hector's head. Maybe it crushed Hector's chest or abdomen. Pedro (skinny guy) died from poison given to him by Hector just months after leaving his family. That's why he looks younger than his wife & daughter. Imelda (Pedro's wife) & Coco (Pedro's daughter) lived to see old age. Which is they look older than Pedro when they died.

No no no....Hector was the skinny guy. Ernesto was the guy that had the bell fall on him and he was the one that poisoned Hector.
