I was in prison when this movie came out... I was doing 8 years for a bar fight gone wrong and my cellie was doing 5 years and battling testicular cancer we both had daughters and this film touched us so much! We were both crying by the end and called our daughters and sang them the song remember me! When i got out i vowed to never put myself in a situation where i would be appart from her ever again! XThis is such a deep movie and will always have a place in mine and my daughters heart! Love your children and give them all the attention u can because one day life might separate u guys and u always want to be remembered as a good father or loved one... 10/10

You sound like such a lovely father 🥹 your daughter is very lucky. My dad was in prison for 8 years and once he was out he never put himself in the position to be put back in.

I'm so sorry you were seperated from your daughter for so long. But I'm glad you learned something from your experience and that this movie motivated you. Your daughter is so lucky to have a father who loves her as you do. I'm glad that it helped you so you do your best to not ever put yourself in that position again if you can help it. Best of luck to you and your family!

@@ashleyshayday1526 thank u for your words of support! I just wish I would've learned my lesson sooner... The main reason for my comment is just so people learn from my mistakes so they don't repeat them... Family is so special and it's sad most people myself included don't realize exactly how special till something happens and u gain a better perspective... But things happen for a reason and I think prison saved my life and made me a better person.. again thank u and everyone else for your kind comments and give your children (if u have any) a giant hug for me and treasure every moment u have with them! Life is so short and I hope everyone does what they can to enjoy it and treasure the time we do have on this earth

One of my favorite subtle things about this movie is how Hector is barefoot the whole film because he was left with nothing in the afterlife after leaving behind his family of shoemakers and then at the end where they are all together walking over the bridge to the human world he finally has shoes because he has been embraced by his family. Beautiful small detail

The flower used for the blessing is the petal of the Aztec marigold. I believe some South Asian cultures also have it and use it in weddings. Dante and Pepita are, “Alebrijes”, spiritual guardians in the world of the dead. We have people who create them in different sizes out made out of papier-mâché. My Library exhibits them, every year, life size. Except for Pepita. She’s enormous and just for the movie. Dante is modeled after the Mexican native dog, the Xolozcuintle. Nearly all of them are hairless. The paper hangings are “papel picado”, paper that has been cut using special techniques to create pictures. The Day of the Dead, in Mexico, are: November First to remember the children. November Second to remember the adults. Depending on the region, the “Ofrendas” are set differently. We go to the cemetery to clean up and decorate their graves on October 31st, Halloween. These three days end with a family feast. ❤ Bread and hot Mexican chocolate figure greatly, the other drinks are Tequila and Pulque. At least in my region, the northern region.

Alebrijes are not spiritual guardians traditionally, they started just as an artesania, representing a fever dream of the artista. Dogs are traditionally the spirit guardians

Poland does something similar. They clean the family graves for the week leasing up to Halloween, till they shine like mirrors, and then cover then in dozens of lanterns. On october 31, they go to the cemetary at night when all the lanterns are lit, and there are booths just outside selling candy, pastries, and little toys, while people play instruments inside. I lived there for a tear, and it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life, I cried from how magical it felt. Up on the hill, the lights of the lanterns bled into the lights of the city, and the whole world felt like stepping into the land of the dead. Mums are the flowers used for honoring the dead in poland

I'm glad you guys liked this movie! The creators did a lot of research, toured several towns in Mexico and experienced the Day of the Dead first hand; Mama Coco is based on a real mexican granma, she passed in 2022, at almost 110 years of age. Greetings from Mexico City, I'd love to know how your ancestor are seen in your culture!

I grew up non denominational Christian and was always told Day of the Dead was devil worshipping. I never really looked into it as it was a Catholic Holiday for the most part. But after watching this I realized I was wrong. Its just a day to remember the your family, which is better then thinking its a day of worshipping the dead. Its actually a good tradition.
@numi8985
@numi8985 2 ай бұрын
A lot of the practices is demonic but putting pictures up of your family in a day to remember them is not (As long as you don't expect for them to "visit" you because as Christians we don't believe in familiar or ancestor spirits visiting us) A lot of evangelical and non denominatonal Christians in Mexico still practice this day of the day tradition without dressing up as dead people. well glad you liked it.

@@numi8985 i do believe spirits visit us in some ways especially our departed pets as I have had spiritual experiences after my cat passed. just dont think the soul is sleeping forever once it leaves the body anyway. i was raised in evangelical stuff too and a lot of it was bs and to put fears into us when most of the things i was taught were not even true.

Miguel goes to the other world when he plays the guitar of Ernesto De la Cruz, who had already died, and he does so in The Day of the Dead, when both worlds are connected, it could be said that the guitar served as a portal to go to the other side.

Is such a shame that movies such as this and the others they watched are no longer what Disney produces. Thank you for choosing the original high quality ones they once made. Such a treat also, to see they have the save emotional response and moral values watching a cartoon as if the characters were real. These guys are awesome. ❤

Technically speaking, with this one it was about the actual producer studying the culture, mostly what Disney did was provide the equipment and funds he needed to go through with his entire idea🤔… You can tell this one has a different “Disney” vibe because of it, everything that came after has all that late Disney charm while this one feels more natural and close to roots

it's wild, i grew up hearing people say this at every stage of my life. No matter what, rose tinted lenses influence people's biases. But this movie is only 5 years old, only a few movies have come out since then so i'm unsure how you're making this judgement.
@lukecat3825

@@felixhenson9926 Both the old fashioned way of actually watching the movies myself, comparing the plots, the characters and finally the writing and the modern way of looking at the reviews, audience scores and the time tested box office returns vs the production cost. When a movie lacks quality writing, has poor production values and contains characters that very few people like or can relate too, that’s people speaking with their wallets. Disney and Marvel have turned out so many losers in the last few years it’s national news. Hope that clarifies that we don’t use rose colored glasses. I have personally watched approx 200 movies, both animated and live, from these studios. Many of them more than once.

This is such a beautiful story about healing generational pain in families. I love it. On a related note (😏), these two clearly love and appreciate the power of music, they need to listen to some Pink Floyd. It's highly emotional music. And the only thing that rivals Pink Floyd's music is the light shows at their concerts. Even if it's not for the channel, please show Naveed and Mansoor Comfortably Numb from the Pulse concert. Something about the world beyond the living in this movie made me think of that concert. 💗

This movie was important to me because I think that a lot of us forget to have conversations with our elders and it's so important that we do. I was always extremely close with my grandparents and we used to have very long conversations about all of the epochs that they lived through and the one that I've been growing up in. We're always made more humble over time and we write off the significance of everything that we've seen, but our children and their children will have so much to learn from us. It's easy to kind of look at older people as relics from another time, but the truth is that they're the greatest teachers we could ever hope to have. A life wasted is a life without curiosity and nobody is a better teacher than a grandparent.

In the beginning in the movie they were talking about how families more important than anything in these two guys agreed yeah families more important than anything and then the musician says you have to sacrifice everything for your dream and you're this and that all of a sudden now these two are saying yes you have to go all the way you have to sacrifice everything and then the other guy is talking about families important he said yeah you can't do that family's more important That's the way 90% of my people are Pakistan India Bangladesh Afghanistan whatever is being supported and said by important people or people with authority whether it be family members or whatever that's what they're going to agree with automatically regardless that doesn't matter that they contradict themselves multiple times over they never think of anything like that so stupid and embarrassing
