Nothing but the best for this man. You’re a man after my own heart. Every lead I build has to have Neutrik fittings. Get Neutrik as they will last a lifetime. And good noiseless cable. A bit more expensive but worth every penny.

YOu have to hold the 6.35mm jack AND the cable at the same time while screwing on the big metal black ring, otherwise you will twist the cable and the jack and easily break off the soldering connection.

in order for the plug to screw in all the way, I break off a piece of plastic on the retainer. it fixes cables less than 5 mm, and when it is broken, it fixes up to 7 mm.
@secondtribe6 жыл бұрын
Nice job, but you don't have to do this cutting at 4:40. You could break off the end of this clamping part, that you're putting on the cable right after (4:51). This will be ok to screw the jack at the end.
@DanielBobke Жыл бұрын
You should break off the end of the retainer piece. This is noted in the assembly instructions from Neutrik.

the black sheath around the hot wire is conductive so strip it back farther.
@cristianrachitan6039 Жыл бұрын
Because you followed a crap video ..... He makes a guitar cable out of a microphone cable I would connect the white to the ground so that you have kind of a phantom ground .I would not increase the core size of the hot wire... it only creates more capacitance therefore you lose the high-end.
@twelthstring2 жыл бұрын
Any idea why in my Planet Waves guitar cable the white wire is schortcutted with the the shielding wire? I shortcutted the red and white wire like in this video and mounted new Neutrik plugs. Result: weak sound. Resistance measured from plug to plug is 1.2 and 1.6 Ohm.

One week Later I bought 22' of 2524 , 2- neutrik plugs.... 22.00 bucks. Followed this video, 20 minutes later... Just plugged in...... silent.. Great, no more buying cords.... Now, I'll make all newPatch cords too. Note.. I made a HOLDING TOOL for 3 bucks.. 2 alligator clips , 1ft. of 1/8" copper grounding wire. Solder the clips on to the wire. Get any kind of 3/4 in board, I used a 4 x 8 inch of plywood, drill 2 hole ..... not quite thru the plywood about 6" apart. cut the wire in half, attach a clip to each piece,,, bend them 45 degrees at 3", slide them into your holes.. Done.. They'll rotate as well... mogami 2524, neutrik NP2C/B.... ALOHA

I thought the shield was there to shield the inner connections from electrical influences... And the two conductors in the middle of it are + and - then
@derbigpr5006 жыл бұрын
No they're not, the two conductors in the middle are not + or -, they're exactly the same wire with just a different color on the outside. You can solder them however you want as long as you solder them to the same posts on both side of the cable.
@DanielBobke Жыл бұрын
The wire he used here can be used for TRS cables (tip -ring-sleeve). Honestly, he probably overpaid for the cable for just a TS cable, but it works. You really only need single conductor cable if all you are making is a TS cable. The braided shield IS to provide shielding to the entire cable length, but at the ends you ground the braid to the sleeve of the connector.

Great video! What amp soldering iron are you using?
@GVRguitars7 жыл бұрын
It's a regular 40w soldering iron, don't know the amps but the iron it's nothing special at all.
@TheBoomtown43 жыл бұрын
How hot is your iron? I do the same process and when I press the tinned tip to the tinned shielding into the puddle on the jack, it only melts the tinned shielding, heat won’t transfer to the puddle in the jack.
@Elniniss Жыл бұрын
You’re supposed to heat up the puddle first.

I tried to solder a cable this exact same way, but when I connect it to my gears there are tickings coming out of the amp... even in clean without any pedal... is there any way to fix this?
@GVRguitars7 жыл бұрын
If you done it the exact same way it has to be an amp problem. Maybe the valves are almost done, try changing them.
@drumtothebeat7 жыл бұрын
I made some researches. It came out that the cable I was using had the two internal wires not twisted and they also had polyolefin insulation while normally it's made of polyethylene. Changing cable did the job

My only complaint is the way they are made. Not solder friendly. Quality wise I am sure they are good. Just not designed well. They at least need a hole in the tip lead. That would make them much easier to deal with.
