I really am impressed & love that you are making it yourself instead of buying. I’m in the middle of restoring OEM nsx Fat Five wheels down to bare aluminum - sanding curb rash, etc....really enjoying the learning experience. Keep up the great work. Love seeing Sal!

You want to go counter clockwise on the outside of the piece and clockwise on the inside holes. It's the way the router pulls, if you go the opposite way your fighting against it. The way I remember is visualize a wall clock, If your routering inside the clock go clockwise the way the arms are going, if your doing the outside of the clock go counterclockwise.

That never crossed my mind! I wonder if that would have made a big difference!
@Quirkitecture5 жыл бұрын
@@SummitLife Yea it usually gets shaky and you have a lot of resistance if you go the wrong way. I would give it a try on a piece of scrap it should make a big difference.

Great point. Also don’t for get you need to know if the bit is center cutting or not. It define how the cut is made too.

What you need for the router is a pattern/template router bit for non ferrous metals and slower speed setting on the router. That type of bit has a bearing that rides on your template and creates perfect copies. Or maybe a scroll saw or band saw but that requires more skill. Good luck!

Looks awesome so far! FYI next time cut the aluminum as close to the shape you want as close as possible with the jigsaw then use the templet and the router to clean up the edge, so the router is only taking off as supper small amount of material. Also use a cutting solution to keep the bit cool and cut faster.

You could try circular patterns on them , use a small piece of round sand paper attached to a drill. Check it out it looks great for something like this project.

Hey man, Good job going for it, next time lay down either masking tape or masking film first on the aluminum, then make your marks, then do your cutting, it will keep the aluminum from getting so many scratches. Anyways keep up the good work man

For aluminum, the thin teeth will quickly fill up with metal. You should use large teeth wood cutting blade.

Hello fella, looks good... how about anodising the aluminum black (instead of painting). From my experiences at work you can also 'hard anodise' in black for a more scratch resistant finish.
