I am so sorry for your loss. My best friend also passed away, but 10 years ago. I still find it very difficult to believe - to this day, as we were so young and the reasons for her death seemed so preventable. Your pain is the measure of your love and it is wonderful to love and it is so lovely that your last time spent together was giggling together over silly things.

I wanted to share something that I have found eases my mind in dark times, while grief feels so enormous and completely consuming, I find the reason it feels that way is because that love remains but has seemingly nowhere to go. Grief cannot exist without love and so often when we are consumed by our fears and our pain it’s so easy to forget that what makes it the horror that it feels, is simply that you loved and have the capacity to love the people in your life to such a degree that their absence leaves a deep scar, my sincerest condolences. carry on loving boldly even in such trying times and turn that love inwards when possible. nurture your soul, dont forget to treat yourself like this is your first time being alive, because it is. i’m pretty sure her boyfriend stays in nyc when she’s in beijing, so he takes care of them. but i would ask friends or family if you have any near you! if it’s a multi-month trip i’d consider asking someone you trust if they could keep your pets in their home so they won’t be alone everyday.
