This week I found out the owner of Papercut Patterns, Katie, has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. If you've been thinking of purchasing a Papercut pattern, or if you'd like to purchase the Stacker jacket pattern I used in this video, please do as I'm sure Katie could really do with the love and support right now! You can shop Papercut patterns here: papercutpatterns.com/collections/patterns xx

Love the coat. The colors are perfect for you. Me too. If you cut 2 sizes of the collar pattern, it won't curl. Unless you want a stand up collar, of course. Also hem the lining, and the body of the coat separately tacking them together with long tacks at seams, etc. The lining will hang more freely. All in all, gorgeous.
@TheCreativeCurator2 жыл бұрын
For future reference, I’d advise on always leaving about a 6” / 15cm opening in the lining of one of your sleeves. It’s how coats and jackets are bagged out in the fashion / tailoring industry here in the UK and it means that no matter what the instructions say, you’ll always have an opening to close out the garment! Your coat turned out gorgeous! 😍

So inspiring Janelle! I'm the daughter of a now retired professional seamstress and the thought of making myself a coat is both exciting and daunting... the critiques can be brutal. I've learned to not share my projects until they're successful. It's awesome if I need guidance and expert advice though, so not all bad!

Hi Janelle, Thank you for sharing your courageous, second venture into coat making and the brilliantly successful results! I absolutely love the soft & cozy pink fabric you chose for the coat's outer layer and the beautifully fun pink & cream coloured plaid lining. By the way, your first coat--that was, literally, made from a cozy yellow blanket that had lovely, soft colored flowers all over it--was so perfect that I hoped to make one as close to your design as possible. Then, today, when I learned of your plans to make a second soft and cozy coat--that was similar to your first coat, only made longer and, now, pink this time--I began to think that you should have a line of coats based on these first two coats and organize to market and sell them worldwide. I just can't imagine anyone not wanting one. At the end, when your tutorial on coat making was victoriously concluded, I felt your joy as if it were my own and realized what a gift it was to be able to make such wonderful apparel. Not only do you now own the garment you love and can now enjoy wearing it; but maybe even more important is the joy felt and burst of confidence that comes from knowing you created this lovely item you are wearing. The choices made in its creation; such as, pattern style, fabric type in solid or pattern, colours used, and accessories selected customize the garment perfectly according to one's own taste and body size. It just doesn't get any better.than that in the world of fashion. I love your background soundtrack music and set design. I have come to realize that even the choices you have made in these respects foster a feeling of fun and calm. Therein, dramatically increasing your followers' desire to take part in the journey of fashion designer and seamstress taken with each new sewing project. A perfect example of the value in actually "making" one's dreams come true; rather than, having them handed to you on a silver pattern. I wish you continued joy and success as you go forward with your business. And, thank you most sincerely for believing in yourself, following your heart's desire and having a giver's heart that shares her journey enroute! 💖 Sincerely, Anita

I rarely ever make a toile as it just adds so much to the time involved. I hate the cutting out process and the placement of the pattern pieces. I always need to make a narrow shoulder adjustment so the whole thing is quite a process for me so I admire people Ike yourself who are so passionate about sewing. I have made some great outfits for myself over the years just the same.

Hi, just a question, what size needle did you use? ….. and another question, when printing up pdf patterns, besides the option of an at home printer, have you had any experience with using office works or other printing businesses? Thank you 😊
@smallishkae2 жыл бұрын
Do the buttons close well enough without a thread shank to fit over the thickness of the coat? When you sew buttons on by hand, you can adjust how “proud” the button sits away from the fabric it’s sewn to. But by sewing it flush by machine, doesn’t that remove the shank that allows the buttonhole edge to fit under the button? Just beware… The coat looks gorgeous, Janelle! The colour really suits you and it looks so cozy.
@evasaker24762 жыл бұрын
This is exactly my thoughts. I make a shank even if it’s just a cotton dress.
@sewcolette2 жыл бұрын
I love this coat, you have inspired me to make a coat for winter this year. For sewing the buttons with the machine, you might of had one of those strange grey forky plastic things with the accessories with your machine. You can use it between the button and coat to make space for the shank, then pull extra thread from the machine to bind it off. You can also use the little hole in one of the legs to help out put the needle into your machine!
