Hello everyone. Just to update all on the soap, as I have been using it now (we are in winter currently I have very dry skin in winter). It is a great bar to use, I do have sensitive skin also. Of course everyone's skin type is different, I do feel it could use with less coconut oil, I am used to very high olive soaps, my skin loves those, so I'll be making it with 10-15% coconut oil to help with it's conditioning properties. You can just increase the rice bran oil to compensate for the difference, of course recalculate the recipe in the lye calculator. Otherwise in past this recipe has been well liked and appreciated. I prefer my bars to be extra conditioning 🙏

I found 30% coconut can be overly drying to certain people, I keep it at 10% nowadays and don't get any complaints, add in a small amount of shea and cocoa for a really nice bar 👍👍

Actually it depends. In hot and humid tropical weather 30% works fine. Though this time I plan to bring it down to may be 23%. Also the other factor that coconut oil will work out much cheaper in countries like India than Shea or Coco butter

@@-PORK-CHOP- It really does depend on climate, here 30% with 70% olive oil is beautiful, it's one of my best sellers. When using lower conditioning oils like rice bran it is a good idea to lower the coconut. Your recipe sounds very nice though, keen to try something similar 🙏🙏

@@joyaghosh2940 all good points, very true regarding the coconut, here in Australia too it's half the cost of olive oil. It used to be the other way around almost!

Hello lovely George. I watched half your video the night it came out but as it was late I was feeling sleepy. Watched the rest tonight (nice treat) and loved it. Love you chatting while you cut the soaps. It almost feels like I’m there watching you. Great recipe. I am going to try this one indeed when I am not making a pattern. Might be nice to add charcoal and have a lovely charcoal soap with this one. Mmmm ideas…..thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤😊😊😊

Hey George - I love watching your viddies! I might try the rice bran oil soon. I have not made soap for a few months until just the other day - made a batch of lemon myrtle (my new favourite scent). Sales have been down a bit this year on my website, so I reluctantly opened up an Etsy shop for my soap. Hope you're doing ok, and your health is good at the moment. Thanks again for sharing your expertise 💜💜💜

Looks very nice George. Your cafe should sell heaps of your soap at that price. I like rice bran oil too. Of course extra virgin olive oil is divine but the cost is getting out of control (unless I can get it on special) I am cutting down on the percentage myself lately and upping the difference with alternatives. I had a bit of a fail with sugar syrup recently. I made it as per a recipe and stored extra in a sterilised glass jar in the fridge for another batch. Two weeks later I took it out to use and discovered it had grown circular mould monsters with what looked like creepy legs!! Ugh.....🐾🦋

Thanks Marion, they do move nicely down over there :) that's fair, it has become pretty pricey. Oh that's no good, wonder why the syrup behaved that way. Good thing it is very inexpensive to make. I pop them in those large clear sauce bottles from big w, they're handy! 🙏

Hi George, I have been using RB up to 70% for many years never had DOS, combined with Olive, Coconut (10% max) Cocoa, Shea and Castor, it makes a beautifully gentle bar with high moisture, I have only had good feedback on them, I see others use high quantities of expensive ingredients that each bar must cost $7 each to make, this is un-necessary as it all gets washed down the drain, if you combine the other ingredients correctly you will get a fantastic bar.

That sounds like a lovely bar! Nice to hear you also having positive experience using RB. I think the 10% coconut idea is good! Keeps it low cleansing but making a good lather. Thanks for the comment 🙏🙏

What about faster terrace with RB , main issue is that
@DawnOrganics
@DawnOrganics Жыл бұрын
Well aware of that issue, I mentioned in the video it was the reason why I was leaving it one colour and not trying to do anything fancy 🙏

@@DawnOrganics Hi George, I have made heaps of bars with swirls, mica lines etc using exactly the same RB oil, just take it to emulsification then you can do fancy things, below is a link to some I have made, your orange one looked fantastic, IMO simple is the best

It does depend on region the rice bran here in Australia does trace very very quickly. I know some rice brans from the states are a little looser and doesn't give much issue with trace 🙏

Nice to hear you chatting again, George. So the fragrance oil accounts for about $0.31 per bar! Is preserving the fragrance the reason you don't gel your soaps? I don't sell and have only made unscented soap, but am thinking it might be nice to try some with essential oils. I think handmade soap makes a nice gift but the first thing everyone does is smell it.
@DawnOrganics
@DawnOrganics Жыл бұрын
Thanks Elaine, correct the fragrance accounts for 0.31c per bar. I don't gel my soaps for that reason, it's important for delicate fragrances and essential oils otherwise the scent will flash off. The first time I tried this fragrance it got a little hot and gelled and after cure there was no smell at all, but managing to keep a nice scent these days with it. Soaping cool and leaving it open helps a tonne. Can add whatever fragrance you like or essential oils they will come out nice. Yes very true, the first thing people do is smell it, even if unscented they still smell it. Sometimes it will have a nice natural aroma to them like if you're using a very good quality extra virgin olive oil, even honey and beeswax can add a nice sweet smell 🙏

@@DawnOrganics Thanks. I like the smell of the soap itself, but everyone's used to soap with fragrance.

Do you cure for 4 or 6 weeks with the 25% water to oil ratio?
@DawnOrganics
@DawnOrganics Жыл бұрын
Correct, 4 weeks is plenty. If using full water 4 weeks isn't enough. Steep water discounting is to ensure they are 100% cured at the 4 week mark
