I DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT WHISTLING, but that's SUCH an obvious mechanic. That genuinely ups the level of cool to me, this is an even cooler concept because of how it interacts with the basic mechanics - you have to dandori your enemies too!

I have a couple ideas on how the tall bulborb could work 1) he squats down to try to eat pikmin but once he is attacked will stand back up bringing pikmin out of whistle range then shake them off farther then normal making it hard to recollect them and throwing them off cliffs easier 2) he squats down and instead of having a bite he lunges a great distance (make him ranged) 3) he stomps at pikmin and you have to throw them at the legs so they can climb up or chip away at his legs until he falls letting you attack him I really like the designs it makes me want to boot up spore to try to make some too

9:12 I imagine this would be like a pink pikmin counter. You know how traditionally pink pikmin can just bring treasure to base no worries because no enemies are tall enough to try to attack? Yeah this guy seems tall enough.

I think the mechanically strongest is your Crypt Bulborbs, I think that with a couple passes it could still be identifiable as a bulborb while maintaining its freakishness. But I actually think your Reverse Bulborb is the closest to a real think we would see in a Pikmin game. It's an upgrade from the Orange Bulborb, basically, even harder to catch sleeping. I could see Olimar's notes saying something along the lines of "This species of bulborb is somewhat smaller than many of its relatives, and often falls prey to them. As a result, it seems to have developed eyes in the back of its head - literally. Sneaking up on these nervous grub dogs in their sleep is nearly impossible, though thankfully their smaller size makes them a manageable threat." In a hypothetical cave built around them and the crypts together, you could have lots of narrow corridors that you can lure crypts down, but the reverse bulborbs are scattered throughout, forcing you to clear them out before you bring in the crypt bulborbs. Also, the Tallborb could snatch lots of pikmin by smashing its face into the ground from above, but if it misses or if you weigh its head down with thrown pikmin, it will be unable to stand back up and trip to give you a damage window. Sounds like a boss mechanic to me, might be funny to put it in a cave that is a fakeout for an arachnorb boss

the tall bulborb would eat by faceplanting into the ground. this is why they would be a nearly extinct species of bulborb mostly found in climates with softer ground

It's likely that the armoured sheargrubs ability to jump on an enemy was given to the swarming sheargrubs in the Tropical Wilds. The swarming sheargrubs have the ability to jump onto fruit to make it weigh more, but can be removed easily.

I think you’re right, and they may have both had that ability, but been used for different purposes. The armored sheargrub needed bomb rocks to be defeated, and maybe needing to waste bomb rocks to free a fruit from swarming sheargrubs may have been too much but overall the idea is really interesting!

Lanky Bulborb could be a better name for the Tall Bulborb. I actually really like the Armored Bulborb. Maybe without certain pikmin types youd have to attack it from the front, putting your pikmin more at risk.
