Another fantastic video Anne! Thank you so much for posting it! :) I have a question for you about using goat milk in soap...my husband and I raise Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats which have the highest amount of butterfat of all goat breeds...often up to 9% butterfat! I've noticed when I'm making full goat milk soap (no water) with milk from some of our girls who produce higher butterfat than our other girls, I often end up with "grainy/gritty" lye solution that ends up leaving some grainy patches in the finished soap. It's definitely not lye pockets from undissolved lye beads, so from the little information I've been able to find online, I think the grainy/gritty stuff are fat particles that saponify in the lye when the frozen milk is added. If possible, I really want to stick with 100% milk in the soap, and not add water, so wondering if I should skim the fat off the milk before freezing it, or reduce the super fat % in my recipe when using particularly high fat milk. Or maybe just use milk from our girls who don't produce the really fatty milk, lol! Do you have any insight, or experience with this issue? Thanks again and much love from Texas! :)

Wow, it is lovely and really interesting to read about how you raise your Goats and use their milk to make soap. I would love to be able to do something similar but unfortunately don't have the space to have my own Goats (maybe one day if I am lucky!) Unfortunately I don't have much experience with the issue you are describing, though I do remember a conversation I had with a Lady who raised her own Goats and she said their milk wasn't the best for making soap with because of their high butterfat, so I am thinking she may have had the same issue as you. Skimming off the fat does sound to me like an idea that may work, but that is only going on instinct and not on any actual factual knowledge I am afraid! If you do work out a solution to this please let me know as I find it fascinating to learn about things like this! :-)

Another amazing video and a lovely product. I would love to know whether you leave the soap to set? Do you put it in the fridge, or keep it outside and cover it with towels? Or no towels.

Just curious….Have you ever tried making your lye with your 50% water and then adding your milk to the oils? I’ve seen other soap makers doing it. This way they didn’t have to freeze the milk, and the lye didn’t caramelize the milk.

Didnt sound overly exciting when you introduced it, but you have produced a lovely looking soap, the flowers look really good, the yellow inside the soap looks really vibrant., will that fade a little as it dries ?? good looking soap all round, well done xx
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany4 жыл бұрын
Funny you should say that, as when I initially thought of this design I did think it was going to be a little boring! However I totally love how they have turned out! The yellow may fade a little as it cures but we do find that annatto doesn't fade too much, so hopefully it will still be quite vibrant. xx

Hello, my name is Alya and i'm from Indonesia. Is it ok to use unrefined sheabutter?
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany3 жыл бұрын
Hello Alya. Unrefined Shea Butter will technically be absolutely fine to use. However, as unrefined shea butter has quite a strong scent some people do find that this scent carries through into the final soap bars (this is why we choose to use refined). By all means test it and see if you like it though as using unrefined shea will not cause any problems with the actual make up of the recipe.
