I saw this in theaters, and I loved it then, and with every cut that Stone has made, it became more and more of a Masterpiece. . I do believe that the 3rd cut of the film, Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut, is superior to the 4th Cut, Alexander The Ultimate Cut. . But the amount of passion that Stone still has for his crowning achievement is beautiful, from the perspective of an artist. . Most artists in his position, with nearly 2 decades of people shitting on this film, fighting off the Government of Greece suing him for making Alexander Bi-Sexual (which he absolutely was), would have just left the film alone and moved on. But he still is invested in this film, his heart is still with it, and he has suggested that he will be releasing a new episodic cut of the film, broken into 5 parts, each an hour long for the 20th anniversary next year. . This film uses the language of storytelling that Ancient Greece used to tell their own stories and mythologies. People yell, speak boldly, declare their love openly, speak of philosophy and of shout to the heavens of their legacies. . While it's not completely historically accurate (gasp) it is historically and culturally authentic. I hope that this film becomes recognized as a pillar of classic films, alongside the majestic Ridley Scott masterpiece, Kingdom of Heaven The Directors Cut.
