Hey, here is a tip that will save a lot of time and pain. Always prototype first. Don't think about the immersion, details or non important things. Make the base of the mechanic to see if it's fun or if it does fit into your desires. When you have a complete gameplay and progression, then you can add the details. Otherwise you will just get stuck, waste a lot of time and break your spirit.
