I can understand rebuilding a game after a few years of development. However, make sure you not constantly restarting development whenever you get the urge to. Yes, your build will be "better" every time. But it will take several times longer to finish the game and I heard story of people giving up after restarting development several times because they feel like no progress has been made. I wish you luck! Also your animation looks nice!

That’s great advice! I made a promise to myself on this reboot that I wouldn’t do it again… hopefully I can stay true to that.

I love this idea for dev log! Cant wait to watch more!!!!

Note for the parallax background that things closer to the player should move faster than things further away. Looks like you had it backwards, but then again I couldn't really tell due to the effect barely being noticeable.

Ah, good catch! That's definitely something I missed in the version I showed in the video. Thanks!

Love this. Solid content, always like when devs explain their process. The state machine with core components is particularly interesting, its like a semi-ECS system. I went the behavior tree route, but this gives me some ideas for how to better segment my code. Looking forward to more content from this channel!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment! Always nice when viewers let me know what they appreciate about the videos. I got the idea for the Core Component/State Machine setup from Bardent in his epic series. I love how it separates the logic so clearly. Cheers!

The reboot looks a million times better. Let me know when the game is done. I’d love to play it!

No worries. I've been working on several games for 7 years, with my own reboots. Irs a lot to learn. I enjoy watching other devs as I also improve my own code.

Awesome video, and it's always cool and encouraging (for someone with zero level like miself at least) see the development from others people's perspective. I'm struggling myself with states machines, I'd love to see sometime a Night Run Studios State Machine tutorial. Thanks.
@NightRunStudio5 күн бұрын
Thanks for that! I'm definitely thinking about a state machine series for making a player controller. In the meantime, I'm not sure if you've seen my Making Smarter Enemies series, but it introduces a sort of intermediate State Machine. It's not quite as complex as what I'm using in Willard, but it's built on the same model and uses many of the same concepts.

Looks nice! Although those far away trees should be a bit smaller to further enhance the fake perspective from the parallax effect

Great work as always! I’m really excited to see your upcoming devlogs. Also, just curious, are you still planning to continue the inventory series?
@NightRunStudio5 күн бұрын
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I don't have any plans to add to the Inventory System (if you meant the one from 2 years ago). Paired with the Equipment System, that series went as far as I planned (I never got much interest in the expansions I suggested, so I kind of let that one finish at a logical point). I definitely plan to continue the Shop Series from the action RPG playlist. The inventory system I introduce there is actually just an improved version of my other system (though so far in this example, I'm keeping the inventory to an on-screen hotbar). I plan to continue those videos adding more functionality, as well as shop integration. If I get enough interest, I'll expand on it even further. For that one, I plan to release one more video (probably next weekend), and then take a short break over Christmas before returning to it in the New year.
