Isn't marble cut using water for lubricant?

@@2degucitas yes, linear cuts to the raw scant (slab) when cutting out the basic shape of the piece required are cut on wet saws. Water is also used in the face polishing process using a Jenny Lind polishing machine (as seen in this video). However, marble can also be cut, shaped and polished dry as well, usually as seen here when small pieces need to be intricately shaped.

@@2degucitas i think the one saw where they use water has an actual metal saw blade with teeth. It is used for making long straight cuts, thick material or several plates at once. Water is probably used as cooling for the saw blade and to decrease dust production during the cut. Whilst the disc on which they give those small marble bits their intricate shape, is something comparable to a cutting disc for an angle grinder, coated with abrasives. With water, the small marble bits will get slippery which can be dangerous for the artisan handling them and a constant flow of water will decrease the visibility of pencil markings, maybe even wash them away. Im no expert in stone works though. My discipline is metal handcraft.

Great work that shows an old era of unprotected artisans. A water jet cutting machine can make it faster and without any risk to the workers. They deserve better working conditions.
