Movie Magic was such a great show. Really one of my favorites from my childhood.

Well, it's twenty years on and I am happy to say physical model use is still here. A lot is done in a black box to be sure, but the art isn't gone quite yet.

A friend of mine worked on that movie as a model maker. I met him when they were using one of our buildings at GE in Pittsfield to work on some of the models. Tony Whalen, if you are out there, hope you are doing well.

I remember Movie Magic. Loved that show back in the day and taped it when there was an episode subject that I wanted to see again. I also remember watching the in-depth BTS of the Stallone Judge Dredd. The stuff they did was pretty brilliant even for 2021 standards. There's a certain feeling of irony in seeing the prediction that guy at the end of the video made about more green screen virtual sets. I wonder what he would say now.

Love physical models and maquettes, but CGI haters needs to get a life... Digital cities (Avengers, for one) are awesome.
@SianaGearz10 жыл бұрын
I found Avengers CG quite meh, except for the Hulk, who was impressive, and still obviously fake. What gave most of it away is the very flat lighting and very tiny areas where action took place. Yes, there is such a thing as lighting for greenscreen. Could i myself do better, with whatever technology, old or new? NOPE. But, it was a very good movie. Well written, well acted, lots of fun. I don't mind. I don't mind cheap CG in Doctor Who even, which is really just there to bridge the plotholes. :P

@SianaGearz3 жыл бұрын
@@luisdidonna Yes the CG overall blends in really well but if you know you're looking at CG, you will find it easily, most shots had a varying amount of CG in them, at the very least set extensions. What i meant is that it influenced the whole look of the movie negatively, because it was specifically shot the way it was to make compositing less risky. Like i said i don't actually mind conspicuous CG at all, i just have an issue with the look of the movie as a whole, and i do blame CG for it at least partially. It's one of those cases where everyone has presumably put up a state of the art effort but the result is still just ever so slightly underwhelming. But the film is also what, 8 years old at this point. There has been quite some improvement and course-correction in the later films. Remember what things were like 10 years before that, like uh, that famous Scorpion King scene :D
