"Cheaper, better, easier"? No way! We want it the proper Kebu way :) You are such an inspiration when it comes to making good music. I wish I had a tenth of your equipment and expertise, but the best thing is of course enjoying the music you make since I can't do anything that compares to this. A very interesting setup you have. No surprise you're having MIDI timing issues with so many channels on a Windows computer. Time to dig out the Atari ST using Notator ;) Yes it works like a tracker, but it's fun. Keep them coming, Kebu! I'm longing for more in the spacesynth genre.

You, mister, are a real help! I love synthwave and have recently started making some music myself. With so many different videos and tutorials on KZbin, you clearly stand out with your concentrated knowledge. Not to mention the skill. :) I only found you because I was specifically looking for the Terminator Theme. And your video has immediately landed in the playlist. Best wishes and have a lot of fun with the music.

24:20 a tip here: maybe use a Korg800DV! With this amazing vintage beauty, you can have a pink (or white) noise with different filtering, envelope and modulation on each canal, pan them and even cross modulate them for good measure with two ring modulators. That's the reason why I've been using my beloved 800DV since... may 1976 in almost all my rhythm/bass or ambiance background tracks.

Thanks for being so generous with your workflow. When you spoke about midi jitter it reminded me of two things ... first was vince clarke of erasure who got hacked off with midi jitter during the 'wild' album so he went stripped down analog for the next chorus album. Second was the steinberg midi interfaces who had this tech where the midi notes were already queued up on the interface then when the clock sent 'go' they would respond. Not sure if practical today but ..... yeah..... MIDI jitter is a thing :-)

I have to take my time and follow all your "Makinf of"s. My workflow is basen more on VSTs right now (as I don't have any room for studio work - I have several synths, but reassembling kit everytime I want to make music would be a nightmare), BUT your tips should be useful also in a 100% virtual environment. Hopefully to the end of the year I'll get my long awaited room for synths :D

Kebu, I love your conversion and it sounds so much better too. But can you share why did you made the slight modification to the main lead melody (I think you choose a lower octave than upper for the last two notes) thanks 🙏🏻 😊
@kebu
@kebu Жыл бұрын
Do you mean the "verse" melody? I always consider the brass riff as the main "melody". I think it was because I changed the verse melody sound. It didn't make sense to me anymore to go to a higher octave before the end of the melody. Also, it might be because I wasn't that familiar with the song in the first place. It is one of those songs that when you hear it you instantly recognize it, but when you actually start listening to it you realize that there are things that you "remember" differently.

Kebu, great setup and legend's device 👌👍. The best would be to have a powerful unit and Cubase run more efficient, more fast. Wonderful tracks in this vidéo and your album 💪✌️. To solve your problem with your midi ( with or without DAW) and to have always a synchronization with all devices, analog instruments, sequencer etc. You must use a midiclock generator 😊💪🙏 ✌️ Going to playing and producting greats songs 👏
@kebu
@kebu Жыл бұрын
Thanks! But I'm not using MIDI clock, so that can't be the problem. I'm just sending MIDI notes, CC data and SysEx to my synths from my DAW. And SysEx I only send in the beginning of the songs in order not to take too much bandwidth. But yes, a faster computer couldn't hurt.
@titoutiti418
@titoutiti418 Жыл бұрын
@@kebuHello Kebu, i advice just you 😉 that you should use to solve this problem a midi clock generator to synchronize your set up. This device catch the clock of your DAW ( mode slave ) or generate the clock in the box ( mode master ). Even if you send just the informations sysex, CC, between devices and your DAW ( Ableton, Cubase ...) etc... the protocole MIDI will be synchronize thanks to this box midi clock with all others instruments even chained bye MIDI. the box propose 4 out MIDI synchronize or indépendant and 1 in MIDI + in audio synchronize with audio card / DAW 😉🙏. You can calibrate even the timing in your DAW to regulate and synchronize the timing in millisecond ... Lot of problem in MIDI when we play and use many instruments chained with MIDI. Going to product the wonderful songs, EP 👌💪🎧👍

Is that a Roli Seaboard behind you? Have you used it in any of your videos? I'm suprised you didn't use it for the lead in Flight of the Navigator.
@kebu
@kebu Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a Seaboard Grand. But it's really difficult to play anything in tune with it. I was considering using it for the tune, but I didn't see the point in it, because I wouldn't be able to make the solo sound as good as it sounds now. The Seaboard is great for acoustic or fretless bass sounds, though.
