People sometimes use just fabric softener without water at all but well that's kinda "expensive way" xD I don't think you need exact proportions. Just measure it "by eye" and definitely use more fabric softener than water. It will work anyway so just try. It will soften wig's hair extremely and then if it's still shiny just use baby powder and all done.

If a wig, like these, is not hest resistant, you can use hot and cold water to style it differently. For example, dump hella hot water on a wig to straighten curls and get rid of poof. If you'd like to put in your own curls, use non heat curlers, gently dump cold water on the wig, and allow it to air-dry with the curlers in, and BAM. These wigs were matted but I do think they'd look better had they been restyled.

Minori, a shironuri artist. Actually has a tutorial on how she turns not so great wigs into great wigs for shironuri, no shine with letting a cheep shiny wig sit in fabric softner for a week to two weeks.
@wowyoureadthiscomment14686 жыл бұрын
Emily B send me a link please
@memorialcakewut55996 жыл бұрын
@@wowyoureadthiscomment1468 Hello sadly I can't find her tutorial, it's from around 2009-2010 or so... and I gave up searching for it. However have no fear, here are my steps on how to deshine your wig. Proceed with caution, I take no account of any mishaps. Warning your wig will lose any style it had previous to deshining. Materials: a bucket, fabric softener, powder (baby powder and eye shadow depending on your wig colour), a comb and of course your shiny wig, cheap or not cheap. Also if you have a sensitive nose, I suggest using a sensitive fragrance free softener. Step one: Get your bucket and fill it up with some water (not till it over flows, but enough to cover your entire wig) also no hot water, because logic) now add 1-2 or 3 caps if it's extremely shiny. And submerge your wig in this mixture entirely, leave over night and check your wig, if it looks like nothing happened leave it in there and check on it again the next day. Depending on how unshiny you want it, this will also tamper with the texture of the wig "hair". The longer you leave it in the more, hard to explain, fluffy\choppy they get. Also the colour of the wig it's self may change depending on how long to leave it in, it will get lighter. Step two: Take your wig out of the bucket. Do not rinse your wig! If you have a drying rack in your bathroom place it over your tub or in your shower and let it drip dry. Ideal is one of those wig stands that let's air reach inside your wig cap, but its not necessary if you don't have one. If you have the desire to untangle your wig (if it's a long wig) I always do so when it's wet so it dries straight and tangle free) Always brush gently from the bottom to the top. Step three: Your wig is now dry and kind of shiny... :\ ( we'll get to the still shiny part in step four) You should now style your wig, tease it curl it whatever look you're going for. Also make sure to try it on so the style is just right on your head. The reason we styled it first is, I just do it that way depending on the style I'm going for, you should try out what's best for you. Especially if you plan on adding something beneath like LEDs or something else fancy. Step four: You've styled it but it's still kind of shiny... :( well there's a simple trick that we can thank our ancestors for, powder. Powder your wig (the colour might change, a black wig will turn grey if you use too much baby powder) whether you use a dry shampoo, baby powder or eye shadow. A little goes a long way, so before you add too much go easy and add as needed. However if it does get too much, just shake or pat it out. (If you powdered first then proceed to style) Step five: Once you're done with powder, fix your style. And go wear that wig! If you have any questions check out a few cosplay sites. I've been doing this for years and have yet to be disappointed, unless I got a really cheap wig and it's the wigs fault. (Like it's too thin, or all the hairs fall out, like a needling Christmas tree) Hope that helped, sorry I couldn't find her tutorial. :(

John Pereira dry shampoo works just as well and you don't end up with powder all over the room. If you are going to use baby powder with minimal mess, pour the powder into a lidded container, put the wig in the container, place lid on the container, shake gently. let sit for awhile so the powder settles, take it outside to open it, take the wig out of the box and shake out the excess powder over the box, then brush and style appropriately. this way, you don't end up with powder all over your house. 😎

I used a dryer sheet afterwards and I think that might’ve helped! I only let the wigs sit in fabric softener for a day.

YOU DID IT!! CONGRATS!! YOU WON THE KZbin ALGORITHM GAME!! But seriously, I subscribed. This video was ahead of its time. I literally had no idea that it was 2+ years old. I literally thought "what's up with the charm necklace and toys on the self" and then my eyes lowered to the charm necklace I had just made YESTERDAY (as a full 24 year old lady and granted I was babysitting when I started it) and I literally have Disney Princess stickers on the wall next to my bed. AND THEN as I went to look up your social media I realized you only have like 7.5k subs?! WILD. Tldr. I like yo style. Please upload again 😊

I used to have a pixie cut and got two wigs on Amazon. Both were under $20, although I had to purchase and sew in extensions for the longer one which ended up being that one up to $35. Dry shampoo works amazingly well to take the shine out of wigs and give them more lifelike texture. I personally prefer the Not Your Mother's tapioca dry shampoo that I got for about $5 at Wal-Mart, as it's cruelty free. I wore my shorter wig out to a male burlesque show on Mother's Day two years ago and people (who didn't know me and my pixie hair) were surprised to find out that wasn't my real hair.

Have you ever used dry shampoo on a shiny wig ? It works wonders without having to wet the hair .

I wonder if you could mix a bunch of baby powder into fabric softener and make like a sludge that you could brush on the wigs with a dye brush and maybe that could work if you left it on awhile?
@bellsy46226 жыл бұрын
Just soak the wig for like a week in a water and fabric softener mixture and then rinse it out and let dry

Dry shampoo works soooo good as well you know? Try it guys, I use it for way more than that too as it is easier to apply and it smells better than baby powder and 1 can lasts awhile!

Hey girl! I buy cheap wigs on eBay/Amazon/wish etc. and I buy from Walmart and Halloween stores, too and I follow your tips as well as style them with heat. I think you’re supposed to keep the heat under 120 degrees. I apply heat protectant to the hair and I put my iron on the lowest it can go and fiddle with the wigs until I like them. Usually I’ll straighten them as much as possible and then curl them the way I like.

When using fabric softener I leave the wigs in a sink full of a mixture of mostly water and fabric softener , I leave it in there from 30 min to an hour , then quickly rinse it with water and leave them to dry overnight which I find the rinse stops any greasiness occurring :0 I’d suggest trying it sometime !

I always wash them once with mild detergent and then only use fabric softener after that to keep it detangled. The detergent permanently removes the shine
