Just came across this video and wow, it is incredibly relevant to what I have going on in my setup. I only recently took the dive into eurorack after years of using analog synths and some MFOS diy modules. The ornament and crime, clouds, and pamela's new workout are three of the main modules I'm looking at grabbing next, along with MI marbles and rings. I loved seeing these modules in action and your demonstration and explanations were exactly what I needed to hear to help me understand how they can be used melodically. Thanks and I look forward to more of your vids.

A great way to create repeatable musical phrases is to run an envelope into a quantizer. You can trigger it however you'd like, at whatever syncopation works. You can use an inverted version of the same env or an attenuated version to quantize an accompanying voice. Also very useful for quantization are synced LFOs. Batumi is perfect for this. Sync all 4 LFOs at different clock divisions then use different quantized wave outputs to play against each other. You can even cross modulate them to create changing speeds/divisions, and/or use a mixer to combine multiple shapes or LFOs running at different divisions. Another fun source for quantization is the Doepfer A-115 Audio Divider.Though intended to create sub octaves of an audio rate VCO, when fed LFOs it creates square wave divisions of source frequency which may be mixed to create stepped voltages capable of producing semi-random repeating phrases. Run through a quantizer then fed into a VCO you get a strange little sequencer you can change on the fly.

So many great ideas in this video! I keep watching it again and again! And some beautiful tunes too! Nice and discrete use of Clouds too, I could not imagine this kind of use of this module. And a question: Are you happy with the 2hp Tune (as a low cost quantiser)?

Thanks a lot for your videos Greg; design, titles, perspectives,... they fit perfectly with your music, truly inspiring! Let me ask you... I'm about to get a quantizer and can't decide between Quantimator, uScale II and the 2hp Tune. Price, size and functionality of the Tune are really great, how much do you like it? Any complaints? I'm planning to use it with some random Cv from Pam or some LFO waves. Thanks again for your job!

I find the 2hp Tune to be really handy, especially in cramped cases, but obviously more limited than other more complex, bigger, more expensive quantisers. If you just want quick quantisation though I feel like it can't be beat.

Hi Greg! Cool video, as always! I'm very interested in that 2hp Arp. Could you tell me please, is it possible to use it with Intellijel Plonk? As there is no 1v/oct input in Plonk, but there is Trig input. I've confused. Will root output of Arp work with Trig (or Pitch) input of Plonk? Thank you in advance!

That is a quantizer. With uScale you can dial in the tones and make it change between those tones from output a and some others from output b. But to make them change over time with the whole range of notes in the dialed in scale, connect it with a sequencer.
