I have always done my camp pizzas from scratch in a cast iron skillet I do put it in the bottom and turn it over before I put the other ingredients on so that the crust has a chance to heat on both sides but if you are being careful they're wonderful I've been doing this since the '70s and my kids and grandkids adore Pizza this way thank you for showing your way I appreciate all you do

I always used two small cast iron skillets. I would turn the dough over when it set and dress the upper side of the pizza and cover it with another hot cast iron skillet. Maybe it will work for what you want. It’s a learning curve cooking out in the wilderness, but a fun one. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day!

Thank you for this recipe! I am a public school teacher and like any working mother/wife I am always trying to find shortcuts to get supper on the table. I am going to freeze the sauce in serving sized portions and freeze my crusts. These will be phenomenal for week night meals or when our schedule is hurried.

I just watched this video. I wonder if you used a cast iron skillet or cast iron Dutch oven, over turned on top of the griddle, it would hold the heat in better. Pizza looks delicious. Love watching your videos and I have learned so much from you and Jim.

Try heating the pizza stone then putting the pizza crust on grill and put the hot stone on top of the pizza crust. Similar to how a panini is made.

Oh, Pam. I just had to laugh when you sat there and told us with a straight face that you like to use “basic kitchen equipment”. And then you pull out your Maserati level mixer🤣. Did you forget that the name of your other channel is Woman with a Gadget? I thought I was a gadget junkie. But I am obviously an amateur compared to you. But unlike me, you actually use yours all the time. Some of my gadgets that are only good for one or two things and they were a mistake. However I did have to stop laughing when my mouth started watering because your pizza looked absolutely fantastic. I read the comments and I think some of the commenters had a really good idea about using some of your cast-iron as a lid since it would hold so much heat. I think you would have to use a frying pan with a handle to make it manageable.
@trailgrazers36902 жыл бұрын
LOL! You are right. I do like good equipment, but I don't have many highly specialized appliances like a pizza oven, a rice cooker, an egg cooker, a bread maker, etc. That is what I was getting at, but I think it didn't come out quite like that!
@janetdw2 жыл бұрын
@@trailgrazers3690 Now that makes a little more sense. My neighbor had an egg cooker. All it did was hard boil eggs six at a time. It sat on the countertop and she put the eggs in there with some water in it (apparently steamed them). I’d have to eat an awful lot of eggs to buy that and I ❤️ gadgets. As a harried single mom, I once bought a bread machine at a yard sale for five dollars. I only used it to knead the bread simply because I didn’t have time to do it otherwise. I have had a rice cooker - but once I got my Instant Pot, away it went. Haven’t been able to get rid of my 1975 crockpot though. It was a wedding present and I remember being so excited when I got it.

It was a major success ! Looked delicious ….just keep it under the cover for a while longer until it’s all melts. Keep the lid on it. Maybe turn heat off when brown enough, and just leave it on the cooling surface. Heavens, you’ll figure itvv bc out!

My thought about your pre-freezing is this... Can you use your freeze dry trays to put the par-cooked dough on them to do your flash freezing on. ( to save room) or are they too wide for the trays....?

I wonder if you could use your Dutch oven with a lot of briquettes on top and a few on the bottom. It would be an interesting experiment to see how hot it could get.
@rosemarycollins46822 жыл бұрын
I'm used to Dutch oven a lot to make pizza out when we're camping you just have to be real careful of the crust on the bottom that you don't burn it but it turns out so good I use about seven or eight breakouts on the top of it or when we're doing the wood we just put a shovel full of wood on the top
@cindywilson30562 жыл бұрын
@@rosemarycollins4682 I'm thinking put 3 or 4 canning jar rings on the bottom, then place a pizza stone on that. Should give it a buffer from the extreme heat on the bottom of the pan.
@trailgrazers36902 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know you can make them that way. I am trying to get away from doing raw dough at camp. But that is certainly a good alternative.
@TheErador2 жыл бұрын
@@trailgrazers3690 the guy from the outdoor boys channel mixes up the dough at home, without kneading etc. and keeps it in the chiller at camp until they're ready to use it - giving a few hours for it to do a rise, seems to work quite well, but i guess you still have to handle raw dough a bit. They do camp pizza using two baking trays, fill the bottom tray with dough and toppings, set it on the fire/bbq and then clamping the other tray on top to load up with embers.
