Making Progress on the 1965 Honda CB450 Black Bomber #motorcyclerewind #vintagemotorcycles #cb450k0
In this episode of Motorcycle Rewind, we're diving back into the restoration of our 1965 Honda CB450 K0 Black Bomber. We've got a lot on our plate today, and we're excited to share the process with you.
First up, we'll be putting on some brand new tires to give this classic ride the grip it needs. Then, we'll mount the exhaust system and get those iconic pipes looking and sounding great.
We'll also tackle the brakes, ensuring they're up to the task of bringing this beauty to a safe stop. And of course, rust removal is a big focus - we'll be scrubbing, sanding, and buffing to make the Black Bomber shine again without going for a full repaint.
Join us as we work to breathe new life into this vintage motorcycle, and follow along for tips, tricks, and plenty of garage fun. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more updates on our projects!

Some sanding and cloud silver would be my vote on the fenders. Being painted fenders, filler could be used to bring the fenders back to look new again! That’s just me and my OCD kicking in - lol.

I think painting the fenders should be proportional to the rest of your restoration. Everything else is gonna look so good, might as well shoot on a coat of paint on them.

Loving it!! My vote is don't paint. Projects always take longer than expected. I'm just trying to get what little Iv removed back on (to paint frame) and focus on electrical. 🤙 Thanks for sharing Eric!!

I'd clean off some of that inner wheel rust best I can - and then spray on some Fluid Film, which stops rust and doesn't adversely effect rubber.

It's looking great, Eric! I believe you said this is someone else's bike. If so, maybe ask them if they want it painted? That's obviously something you can't undo later. Personally, I'd paint the fenders and side covers black, and ride the wheels off that "black bomber."

If the rest of the silver parts came up as well as the front mudguard/fender then it would look fantastic. Overall so far the bomber is responding well to the elbow grease. Reminds me of Mr Miyagi in the Karate Kid "Wax On, Wax Off".

I’m curious Eric how do you reuse the Honda paper air filters? I’ve tried stripping the paper out and replacing with Honda air filter foam, but I’m not sure how much that affects the air flow to the carbs.

If you slide the clutch lever mount on from the right side after removing the bars from the triple trees it should go on that is after removing the old one ... Should be easier than pulling the wires in and out of the bars ... Maybe ... Also I was amazed that the spokes were so nice . Did you do anything to them >>

1965 - the year of my birth. If I wanted to own a motorcycle the same age as me, then this would be it. what's the state of the paint on the tank? if you paint the fenders then the tank might look drab in comparison - get such good tips from you watching you do this 👍

Paint or don’t. No real difference. However, you’ll need to protect the areas you treated for rust. Satin clear on the fenders and side covers. Whether you paint or not.
@motorcyclerewind

Agreed. Will be buffing and polishing then putting ceramic coating on them. Maybe I will do some clear first. That’s a good idea.
