This series is destined to be a classic presentation! I am an old fat man and I don' do so good grafting. Yesterday I tried again to graft and I was able to "murder" lots of larvae. where do you get the queen exterior for a 5 frame nucleus hive.

michael hopper Miller makes them, but I buy a 10 frame plastic queen excluders and cut them down

I didn't read your post very well. I Buy 8 frame plastic excludes and cut them with tin snips.

How can I isolate a queen if I can't find her? I inspected my hive yesterday after not being in the hive for a month. I could not find the queen but found capped brood some larvae but not eggs. There is pollen going into the hive and there are lots of bees with two 10 frame brood boxes and two full honey supers. I'm concerned there is something not right with the hive. I did see some capped brood that was chewed open. Is it too late to try to make some new queen cells?

It could be there is no flow on and the queen has stopped laying. No eggs in a hive is not good. Need to keep an eye on them if no eggs and you can't find the queen. Give them a frame of eggs from another hive see if they make cells. If no cells the queen is probable in there. If they make cells you can let them make a queen or you can buy one. It's getting a little late in the north east to let them make a queen.
