Hi! That's a presser feet which can be attached to your machine for attaching the bias to fabric.

Hi I'm new to all this, so I may come across as a bit daft, it I was wondering if it's possible to just cut straight strips of cotton sheets to make the tape or must it be cut on 45° angle because of the weave? I'm having a plane material so I have no pattern to follow. Thank you.

You can cut the strips straight across, but there will be no stretch or ‘give’ in them. Depends what you’re using the tape for.

thank you, im just making masks for now, a few wrinkles wont bother me too much, but i have watched many vids here now and do understand why the stretch is important for sewing curves. youtube is a great thing, i would never have even tried to use a sewing machine with out it. you and everyone else that put videos on here are an inspiration. so thank you :)
