This is old, but for others to read as well! Apparently they came out with it in '93. Commands have different requirements. Some three years of continuous service; others 50 hours. NAVMEDCENPORTS requires 200hrs and a chit for it. All for a medal saying, "you volunteered!" Don't mind volunteering, but a medal for it? Great video!

I'm in navy jrotc as well. my instructors told me you go in as an E-2.

I did 4 years of Air Force JROTC and joined the Air Force as an E-3. That's the same for the Navy. If you join the Army or Marines you'll get E-2.

I have an end goal of at least being an E-5, but I hope to make E-6 before I retire, that is if I like being in the Navy when I join. I am not clear on how ranking up works exactly. When does a recruit become an apprentice, and an apprentice become a seaman? That is the only gray area in my research. Other than the explanations of jobs are vague at best on the web.

Wyatt Branham lets see here .......... e-1 to e-2 is just about time in rate ,,,,, i think you make e-2 after being an e-1 for 9 months ,,,, then the same thing for e-2 to e-3 .... and then to make e-4 through e-6 ,,, you have to take an advancement exam which covers your job and also military history / military bearing ,,, also part of your advancement from e-4 through e-6 is affected by your evaluations which you get twice a year.

JTsuits Going to basic in 10 days, if you're not E2 upon graduation from basic, I think you get a Failure to Adapt and they kick you out. Many people should be E3 upon graduation. I'm starting as E3 due to college, I get E4 once I get to "A" school and can re-enlist for E5 immediately. After that, it is 3 years in rank plus a test to advance. So, partly it depends on your rate. I'm MT (AEF) so I get automatic rank and easy advancement.

25% of people that have all the Qualifications and take the exam to advance around 24-25% will promote. These %'s vary by the rate you are in ATM IT has a 100% E-4 promotion while some rates are at 50%

Do you know anything of the 800 Division in Navy boot camp? I was contracted for bud/s ummm not sure what happens to me in the horrible and suicidal event for me that my body breaks and i have to leave (only way I'm getting outta there) any who, do you know what happens if they wash out from spec ops? I keep hearing people telling me I'll get a shit job painting ships. I scored a 71 on the asvab, so I don't know much of the Navy except for spec ops.

JTsuits Thanks for your reply, appreciate it. So last thing, I really am having a hard time and I keep getting injured during runs, few months ago it was tendonitis of my foot, then before that I got a swelling and just now maybe about a week ago I have an achilles tendon that has me limping. I can't run, even though I was hitting 25 miles a week with a 6:15 mile, still not the fastest guy btw. my recruiter told me I need to sign to get a job and then try to regain my contract for SEAL. He gave me a week and said I have to be able to walk without a limp to go to meps and sign. I dunno how long this will take to heal, my dilemma is...if I'm hurt here, whats going to happen to me over there? I know nothing of the military outside of what I studied for Navy SEAL. People told me to be a cop or get into the fitness industry. Told me I'm wasting my life away, I'm confused and I don't wanna make the wrong decision, cause in themilitary I'm locked in and if I fuck up, I'm there for 6 years with a job I probably won't want. I pretty much invested all my time and put all my eggs in a basket for SEALs. It s a gamble, everything in life is I suppose. Im lost right now and not sure what to do, you have any thoughts or what would you do in this situation? I mean, seriously you're the only one right now who's talking back, no one else listens or cares. I don't have friends or close family so here I am asking a complete stranger lol any who, what advice do you have for this predicament? SEAL? or just give it up and be a cop or get in the fitness industry? I'm balling with this, because I want to be a SEAL, its so hard to let go. My attitude was you're gonna have to beat my ass to get me off the sand in coronado, theres no other way I'm leaving this place. It comes with a fall if I fail for any reason though. On the other hand, cop or fitness. I feel like everyone else though, I kinda hate that feeling. I dunno, I wrote a lot. maybe Im just an idiot. Smokeydabear415 If you wash out you will go back to your original contract you signed at meps. Seal challenge contract overrides the original and the only way you get one is by earning it, and to earn a contract you have to score really high on c sort and pst. To be honest with you i would let your leg heal because at buds you will easily run 20 miles day and 200 miles in hell week. If your under 20 years old my advice to you is the keep training until you can do 8:30 swim, 100 push ups, 100 sit ups 20 pull ups and 8:50 run because in reality these will be the minimum standard because of all the people you are competing against. You go in to buds trying to survive then its wrong for you, buds is about competing and if you're not having fun then you might as well quit. I have my so contract and shipping out on Oct. kesiki im 25, my scores are 9:03 swim, 104 push ups, 80 sit ups, 28 pull ups and a 9:54 run. Personally, I don't think having 8 flat swims and 8 flat runs makes a huge difference. its either you're a SEAL or not, you have it or you don't. I had a friend who contracted and he left in November. He had an 8:20 run and 23 pull ups and swim was 8:30 and push ups and situps in the 100's every time. He quit, not for physical reasons, he was getting yelled at under a log and he just broke down, he said he couldn't explain it, he just broke down and quit. Physicality isn't everything, I know you need to be fit, but theres more to it in my opinion.
