This is an excerpt from my Environment Creation course! I've my updated way of using octane scatter systems to get a more realistic looking natural dispersion of plants, as well as way easier to customize and adjust to fit every scene. We also go over the techniques of layering multiple ground planes to get rid of that tiling and bring a more unique look to our ground.

Great video! Just a quick comment, when you adjust the H rotation in the Random effector, the highest you would ever need to set it is 360 degrees. Anything higher would just re-tread that same circular rotation.

I am a bit lost around 47:00 while we are adding C4D material to fix some kinda UV mapping thing but I will give it another try though. So far it is perfect explanatory. Thanks for the effort.

ahh ok so, we add the default c4d material and make sure its to the ledt of the main material to just use it for the uv tiling as our material usually needs more tiling for our bigger scenes. C4d noise actually looks at the first material for applying, so now leaving that default materials uv tiling at 1 by 1. our c4d noise wont be tiled. if we didnt do that the noise would pick up the uv tile amount from the actual material and be tiled 15-30 times, which we dont want.

Great info here! good job. But how do you make the aligne ment on sloping hills or moutains align with the form of the mountain?.
@daveycrockettla
@daveycrockettla 3 жыл бұрын
i see you brought the normal high down in normal threshold to decrease the number of grass on the hills/slopes, but what if you want to keep them and align them to the surface properly? mine are laying flat like the rest of my scattered grass. Maybe normal align? but that would change the flat grass that i like .

Great one, thank you! May I ask what's your license type for Octane (it says 0 days left), is it kind of a perpetual license? I'm looking for that but Otoy's licensing system is a bit confusing for me. Btw, at 33:12 you can just ALT+Drag the new material onto the old one and that will replace it.

haha its the subscription version, but after I had to unlock the license due to a stupid windows update, it went from the normal day count to 0.

@@ArgoBeats Also just read your tip, thanks! super quick to do, part from shift clicking ive been right clicking the material to select the tags but just alt dragging is so much faster!

As you demonstrate here, you're just using the images from the Substance material... but have you had any luck with using the sbsar themselves? I find that if I import them, and then change any of the nodes at all, Octane will refuse to ever reconnect them no matter what.

Intersting, is there a reason you don't save your RD textures to Live DB in Octane and build a library of them this way?
@caldermoore3165
@caldermoore3165 4 жыл бұрын
I did at one point and its entirely perfect to do so, I just found I like to flip through the catalog images and quickly just grab the diffuse/height maps to run through a bunch of choices and not clog up my scene with a bunch of materials. once i get the more complex shaders built though, I like to upload those to live DB to grab.

@@caldermoore3165 Thanks, just worked my way through the grass tutorial,. really interesting stuff, especially the colour variations shaders you use. I'll definitely be saving those to live db.

25:55 Do you happen to know why i get a "Bridge LiveLink Error: Failed to setup material" when i switch to octane render setting. I already asked on quixels forums but just wondered if you would know? :p

is there any particular reason you are using cinema4D for your scenes or you are just used to the program? I wannna delve more into blender and i am not sure if i wanna learn another program from the ground.

Its more just what im comfortable using and feel like its workflow best suits my style of working, so IMO, just try out a few tools to find which one best fits what you want to get out of it.
