Very good video on making top irons. People have tried in the past to make these without a lot of success. Your method did the trick. Thanks.

Hi Rob. Great channel mate. Have just subscribed. I am currently restoring a 27 Studebaker Roadster here in Melbourne. I found it derelict without a roof, so this video will be invaluable as I tackle that job.

Glad to hear that you are finding the information useful, the Stude would be a rare car in Australia. Thanks for watching.

love to see how "factory made" becomes "hand-made" (meaning ; manufactured using hand-held tools) showing that original skills are not a lost art, but a re-invented art,and seemingly impossible becomes possible with thought and determination to solve the problem !! Everything old is new again......

Howdy Rob. Great channel, and I like your your way of describing your trade in Leymands terms. One day could you show how to strip either a door skin, or bonnet skin with the intention of using the removed skin again? Cheers Luke 👍👍

Stay tuned we will get to that in the future. We are about to start filming the repair of the door for the brown ute, and there will be a lot of useful information in this series. Cheers Rob.

Rob I like watching your skill.. When you put the sleeve inside the tube, would you be concerned, down the track, about rust forming between the two...As the outside and maybe the inside would be painted, moisture and dirt, could still get in between the sleeve and the tube. Any suggestions on sealing that up, or not worth it ??

Hi Mate, rust is always going to be a possibility but the better ones of the originals are nearly 100years old and are almost the same design. At some point this top frame has been on a derelict car left in the weather and some of the parts have survived with pretty much no rust preventative measures. The sheet metal that I use has been painted with an etch primer prior to fabrication. I will pour some paint into the tubes and pour it out to coat the inside. I will seal the seam with a eurathane sealant, and I will glue the wooden bows into the tubes. Naturally the outside of the tubes will be painted. Once this car is restored it will be garaged and cared for so I don't think that there is any major worries about the tubes rusting way in the near future. Cheers Rob.

Restoration costs for this thing are going to be costly. People need to see what's involved to appreciate the end cost.
