I like to listen to Tipper bf l settle in for the night except l usually fall asleep 💤 with in the first 5-10 minutes and have to listen to the chapter again the next morning ❤️

Gosh, I had forgotten all about that!! We called it Friendship Tea. We used instant tea, Tang, powdered lemonade and sugar. Mixed it up and stored it in a jar, so you could make it by the glass!

I’m going to make your Russian Tea today. I used to make this a long time ago a d got out of the habit . I make cranberry tea that is real good and enjoy it a lot. Cool 1 bag of cranberries in 2 qts of water. Smash cranberries (when cooked) and drain off juice. Add the can of orange juice(or to taste), 2 Tablespoons lemon juice, 2 cinnamon stick and 6-8 cloves, and sugar ( whatever kind you use, I use stevia to taste). We grow cranberries in Northern Michigan and I particularly love anything with cranberries. Enjoy your channel very much.

Your Russian Tea reminds me of the ingredients in Wassail. This is a traditional beverage served around our Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The big difference is your main liquid is tea and Wassails is Apple juice or Apple Cider. But the rest are almost identical. I'll have to give yours a try. Thanks for the video.

I’ve learned when adding cinnamon or other dry spices to a liquid that you will also add sugar to, mix the spices with the sugar and it will mix together easier.

When I was little, 50 some years ago, my cousin and I used to make a "Russian Tea". Ours was a little different, using TANG instant orange drink, and a lemon flavored instant sweet tea. I still remember drinking this while playing in her meadows, during a warm summer visit to Eastern Washington ♡

Here in Australia, we have Mulled Wine. We start with a bottle of red then add similar spices and gently warm it. Some times with a poker from the fire.

That would be a great little Christmas gift for friends and family. Put it in a fruit jar with a ribbon tied around. I can see making this for a cold as well. My Mom and I would make apple juice, whole cloves, cinnamon sticks ( 2), and sliced oranges, put all in a crock pot and just add to it, as folk's would drink it. Best memories of watching the snow fall, decorating the tree's inside and outside.❤️ We would baked gingerbread men and hang them on the pine trees in are front yard, have a bonfire, with the apple drink plugged in, and the neighborhood kid's would come and get the gingerbread men off the tree 🎄 in the yard. We'd make chili and would have a block party, with bonfire's homemade goodies and that apple juice drink. So many great memories.🥰

Thank you for reminding me of the long lost memory of Russian Tea. My mom would drink this every day. Her version was made from the dried version. Instant Lipton Tea, Tang, Lemon aid mix and spices. I forgot how much she loved it. She passed years ago but I so miss that sweet smell of her favorite hot beverage. I Love your show.

This brings such sweet memories of my grandmother's instant Russian tea, made with instant tea mix, Tang, lemonade mix, and spices with added sugar. When I was a child, we always had some in a jar to mix at a moment's notice. Your version sound like it would be even more delicious, and that's saying something. I'm definitely going to give this a try!

I make it every winter, but I make a powdered version and keep in an airtight container. we just heat a cup of water and add the scoops. it lasts s all winter, and everyone just adjusts the amount of mix to their liking. Its great for a sore throat, a cold or just cold winter day. The cloves have a natural healing component, also.

The cloves are good for the soar throat, numbing effect, clove oil used to be used on toothaches to decrease the pain.

That's what we called Spiced Tea Bowl in the 70's, but with OJ, rather than pineapple. Added a little ginger, along with cinnamon sticks and nutmeg. Would float 2 baked orages studded with cloves for decoration. Baked, I don't know why, except to add flavor, maybe? And to lessen the strong flavor of cloves? Think I'd prefer your pineapple version, but with floating pineapple slices spicked with cloves. And maybe cranberries. Never heard/tried the Tang version. Thank you for sharing your "new" family tradition. Jogged a lot of folks memories.

Russian Tea is very similar to my Hot Rum Punch that I only make at Christmas. I use orange juice, pineapple juice, apricot nectar, lemon juice, cranberry juice, apple cider, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and honey. I keep it warm in a crockpot with the rum on the side for those who want to add it. It definitely reminds me of Christmas. Thank you for sharing.

When I see your videos it reminds me of this quote of hers. “How I go to the woods Ordinarily, I go to the woods alone, with not a single friend, for they are all smilers and talkers and therefore unsuitable. Love this tea! My sister-in-law gave me this recipe 35 yrs ago and called it Wassail. She floated sliced lemons and oranges on top for looks, but you sure don’t need them. Absolutely delicious and fills the home with its great scent! Nice hearing about its origins, thx!

You gave me a big surprise with this video!!! In the 80's this was the rage and everybody loved having "Russian Tea"! But I stopped making it because of the recipe! Here you used natural things, but my recipe called for powdered drink mixes! Full of chemicals! We had the favorite orange drink.....you know which one. And then the powdered lemonaid drink that is still being sold today and then the spices and tea.....but powdered tea! No pineapple was ever mentioned. But your way looks so much better and especially with the coconut sugar!!! Thank you so much for sharing this! God bless you and wishing you all a wonderful Christmas!

I love the very simple approach to the video. You did try to "sell" the kitchen a bit with the extra fruits and vegetables around, but overall, you just let your kitchen and recipe speak for themselves. No background music. No stupid close-ups of your measuring and pouring unnecessarily, just how to make the festive sweet tea with a narration from you for why that recipe means something to you and yours. It's homey and welcoming. I did expect something a bit different when you said "Russian" tea. This is very much like how I make cider. Regardless, I appreciate the recipe and the presentation. Genuine, down-to-earth southern hospitality.

My grandpa was born in 1921 in Northern Kentucky, but grew up in Indiana. I have a few of his mother's recipe cards. She had the recipe for a drink almost identical to this one called "Baptist Mulled Wine," except with regular orange juice, probably written sometime in the late 40s or early 50s. She was from Harlan County.

I use to make Russian Tea kind of like that, but mine was an instant version, minus the pineapple juice. I used instant tea with lemon flavor, the spices, Tang and mixed together storing it in a jar. When I wanted a cup of hot Russian tea, I’d use two or three spoonfuls in a cup and added hot water. Best thing on a cold winter day. I’ll have to try your version with the pineapple juice. It looks delicious!

Russian Tea used to sit and simmer on the stove at my Aunt Lucille's house in southeastern Tennessee back in the 80s, giving a holiday aroma to the area and having a little more water mixed in if too much got simmered off. I think this recipe will be very similar, so thank you for sharing it. One thing she added was a slice or two of orange and lemon floating in the simmering pot. People today talk about "simmer pots" but Aunt Lucille's was like a simmer pot that you can drink too.

Not English, but I am from another of the 4 countries in the UK. We Brits don't use tea in Wassail. It's made with the whatever was the most common, local alcoholic brew - cider, perry, beer or wine, plus spices and roast fruit. Sometimes it has stronger spirits such as brandy added, to give an extra kick on a cold winter night. Cider is the most common base alcohol used these days, because of the strong, enduring links between wassailing and apple orchards. In some parts of Britain, particularly in the southwest of England and across the border into South East Wales, original wassailing goblets are still in use generations after they were carved from the tree of life. However, most of the original goblets are now in museums or are held by heritage organisations 🙂

Nothing more comforting than a cup of this with sugar cookies or I make lavender cookies this time of year, and you'll sleep like a baby. People my daughter works with, start putting their orders in for Christmas right about now. Always good for others to enjoy the fruits of your labor!!!! The first time I tried Russian Tea was at our Christmas quilting guild party. Our teacher, who has since passed on, made this drink and she added some kind of alcohol, she wouldn't tell me what it was, she said that was her secret. I am not a drinker per say, but that Russian Tea was wonderful. So finding your recipe is a plus. Thank You!

Thank you for your recipe! We make Russian Tea anytime it gets cold. It's like a must have. Especially when it snows. We use whole cloves and no cinnamon. I've never had it with cinnamon. I might have to try it sometime. I don't measure stuff when I make it. This is my recipe: Russian Tea ~2 quarts water 8 family size tea bags ~1/2tbsp to 1tbsp whole cloves 46oz pineapple juice 12oz frozen lemonade concentrate 12oz frozen orange juice concentrate (We used to use 6oz, but stopped wasting the other half. It tastes better with 12oz anyway.) ~1/2c to 1c sugar Put the water and cloves in a big pot and bring just to a boil. Remove from heat and put the tea bags in. Steep for at least an hour. Once steeped to your liking remove tea bags and return to heat. Add pineapple juice, lemonade and orange juice. Stir until well mixed. Now taste it. Let that determine how much sugar you put in. Now is also the time you add more water if it's needed and only if it's needed. It could be too strong or too sweet. Most times I'll end up adding 1c to 2c water. All of this can easily be adjusted to your taste. Once you've got it to your liking, it's done. Now enjoy. Leftovers can easily be stored in a mason jar in the refrigerator. Sometimes we would make an instant Russian Tea mix with instant tea, Tang and Country Time. It was nowhere near as good as the real stuff.

In Kentucky, mom always had a pot of this on the stove at Christmas when everybody got together. The ladle usually never made it out of the pot people were scooping it out so fast a cup at a time. Her's had sliced oranges floating on the top. I miss that.

My mother loves Russian tea. I love the smell of it with the cinnamon sticks, but I don’t care much for the taste and she drank it hot. I can drink sweet iced tea by the gallon. Seeing that mason jar funnel brought back a flood of memories from using them growing up! Thank you for that!

My Ma always made hers with tang, instant tea, cinnamon, cloves, and sugar.. she passed the recipe down to my mom who taught me how to make it and now my daughter helps me make it every year. We always make enough to share with family and friends and since it's all dry ingredients it makes a great gift.

My sister would make big batches of a instant spiced tea and put in glass jars and give as Christmas gifts. I found the recipe she used in my Mother’s cookbook.: 27 oz. jar Tang, 3/4 cup instant tea, 2 packets instant lemonade, 2 1/2 cups sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 2 teaspoons ground cloves. Mix all together and put in jars, to use: Use 3 heaping teaspoons to a cup of hot water.

Our family Christmas drink served at holidays was Concord grape juice, orange juice and ginger ale. It was always served in a tall cut glass pitcher with matching cut glass tumblers and seemed to cut the over rich dinner bathing our livers in fat, lol Thank you for sharing the recipe, I will try it out!

Love old time recipes, i have been drinking Russian tea since 1969 i was 15 we had moved to Fla. where people have come from all over the world, to make this quickly we used instant tea with lemon, tang, sugar and cloves, i have not heard of using cinnamon or pineapple juice, i will have to try it that way. blessings

I never had it myself until I met my wife. During that Christmas time,her mom asked me if I wanted any Russian tea. Never heard of it but I tried it. Now I can't get enough of it. It is also good when you have a sinus infection.

We used to drink the powder version. Then my grandma had percolator punch at Sunday school and that became our hot christmas drink. Water, cranberry juice and pineapple juice. In the basket brown sugar, whole cloves, whole allspice, salt, cinnamon sticks. Let it percolate, delicious. In fact, I'm going to make some today.

I grew up in southeast Kansas and we had a Russian tea that was made with instant lemon tea, tang, and spices. I’d have to look for the exact recipe but we would mix it up and give the dry ingredients in a pretty jar as gifts.

I haven't heard anybody talk about Russian tea in a long time. When I was a kid, I remember people giving powdered Russian tea mixes in mason jars as Christmas gifts. I don't know what all was in recipe, but I do remember they would put Tang in them.

We used to ask mama if we were gonna have Christmas tea. It is so delicious! Korie it's sooo Christmas. Mama told us it was Russian tea. It's still Christmas tea to me. I make it for Thanksgiving & when we're in the mood for it, when it's real cold. I started using raw sugar in it. It's really good & it's got some nutritional value too. A bit stronger than refined. I use it in place of refined sugar as often as I can.

I look forward to trying this recipe. Russian or spiced tea was a holiday tradition in our community but it was a powdered mix using instant tea, Tang and lemonade mix. The recipe you’ve shared sounds so much better!

My wife makes the dry instant version. Very good. You'll probably like it. Tippers version sounds good too.

Evenin, Tipper! I finally have time to decorate for Christmas this eve, and thought what better time to make Russian tea? I cut the recipe in half as I don't have a pot big enough for the whole recipe. Holy moly, it is delicious! Deffinetly didn't need the full amount of sugar, and I added fresh ginger. My house smells amazing for decorating! Thank you so much!💗

1:10 frozen oj, 1tsp ground cloves, cinnamon 2tsp 2tbsp lemon jc, pineapple jc, 2-4 black tea bags, coconut sugar . brew tea in 2 quart of water.

I love making homemade Russian tea. My mom always has a batch of the instant on hand. If I can remember correctly it's: instant tea mix, Tang, lemonade drink mix, ground cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Mix it all up and store in an air tight container.

When I was a child one of my great aunts made a powdered/instant version of this. So good! I make a jar every now and then. Perfect on a chilly day. ❤️

My mom made this in the winter when my sister and I were kids! She grew up in South Texas, and had learned it from someone in her family. I can't remember if her version had pineapple juice or not, but I definitely remember the OJ, cloves, and cinnamon. She always made it in her big Chemex pot, and we'd come running as soon as the smell wafted through the house. Nothing better on a cold snowy afternoon!

I grew up with my mama making russian tea and love it! The first time I made it with my husband he said it smelled like a Michael's craft store in a cup 😆

My Mother used to make a Russian Tea mix using instant tea, Tang (when it was really tangy!) and spices - it smelled so wonderful! I think I might need to make a batch!
