While Rin could've been handled better there was a scene that really made me like the character. It was when Vincent opened up to him and said he was always taught very rigid ideals of what it meant to be a man, how to act, and what he could like and when he could like it. Then Rin responded by saying "No one has the right to decide what's important to you" it was a very simple line but something I needed to hear at the time and something I still remember now and sold me on his route.

Funny enough, Rin was my favoured love interest BECAUSE of how mushy-gushy their chemistry is. It just makes me feel at ease with how wholesome it is compared to the stress that comes with interacting with the other two. Catherine being possessive and violent and Katherine being low-key a Karen although Full Body's exploration of her definitely made me like her a lot more than the original.

I always felt like Katherine was kinda done dirty by the older version of the game. In this game you actually *see* why these two might have ended up together and why it's actually sad that their relationship is stuck in a plateau. It's not Katherine "being a bitch," it's moreso Vincent being indecisive but too scared to have a serious talk with his girlfriend about their future together. It's something that I think is actually pretty big, because the jump from "going steady" to "living the rest of your life with this person" is rightfully scary. So showing the player why you might want that is something the game sorely needed.

I really wish Rin had been revealed to be an angel rather than an alien. I feel like they would’ve been taken more seriously and it would’ve felt more in tune with the feel of the game imo (since devils are in the game it wouldn’t have been crazy to have angels). And it would’ve gone further to show that there is nothing wrong with being gay. Rin being an alien feels like the game is saying that being gay is “alien” or strange. Again, just my opinion

i felt like the whole mini freak out from Vin about Rin was well done. im in the LGBT+ community myself. he was under the impression Rin was something he wasn't. a female. And Vincent isn't exactly a good person. it was a shock for the dude. in a vacuum is it a good portrayal of the LGBT community? not really. but in the context of the story it makes a lot of sense. and the fact that you can choose to move past it and romance him is a good thing. baby steps.

I mean, having your belief of something or someone suddenly proven wrong is a shock no matter the circumstances. Disgust and withdrawal in that type of situation is a natural human reaction because your brain has to reevaluate what it thought it knew about the world and then reinterpret what your new opinions of a situation should be. Some people process that faster than others. Ultimately, the final mentally-processed acceptance should say a lot more about Vincent's character arc than any initial confusion activating his fight or flight response, since that was a more considered and voluntary choice. I've never played the game, so there is that, and I could be missing stuff not mentioned in this video, but that's my feeling in a similar situation at least

Probably more truth in that than you realize. OG Catherine was a graphical engine test for what eventually became P5, and a lot of the character visual designs for P5 and Catherine were built from the same initial concept sheets (Katherine ➡️ Sae, Vincent ➡️ Joker, Catherine ➡️ Ann, Orlando ➡️ Ryuji, etc.) I bet a bit of Erica bled into Mokoto’s design somewhere when her and Hifumi’s designs diverged.

I kinda liked how the Rin reveal and Vincent's immediate reaction was done. I prefer it when characters in stories are flawed people, and don't immediately give the perfect response to a situation. People in life fuck up sometimes, and if they're good people, they work to rectify their mistakes. That's what makes good storytelling, in my opinion.

I can understand that perspective, but it's such a trope in animated Japanese media that for anyone who's seen it already a bunch of times the potential nuances and intention are kinda lost, such is the trouble with cliches. After all, they have no problem discussing sex and other things with the other guys in their friend group (ie toby, Orlando, Johnny,) but the moment erica comes up they act very awkward about her sex life and her relationship with toby. They have no problem talking about Vincent's sex life with Katherine and she was a part of the friend group as well, so there's a clear distinction there. Erica is a part of their friend group but that doesn't mean Vincent is as close or supportive as you'd think. Edit: also, it's shown that Vincent is clearly ignorant in a lot of things, and erica clearly went the full 9-yards and got complete sex change surgery. If that's Vincent's only exposure to someone like that, it does make sense that he wouldn't understand that a person doesn't need to fully get a surgery to transition, as there are a lot of real life people with that mindset. (After all crossdressing is a thing as well, no need to change gender for that so he could assume rin just crossdresses) Either way, he's an idiot, that's been established.

Something that bothers me about Rin is how it _feels_ as if they’re the “obviously correct” choice. Both Catherine and Katherine are… messy, it seems like. Neither option feels like the “right” choice, when you look at them both. And that’s what makes them interesting, I think, because relationships _aren’t_ perfect. So Rin just kind of feels… out of place, to a degree.

I thought they were gonna make the ostensibly female Rin "the younger woman" and have their relationship go really smooth at first. Ya know, he gets to act like an older brother and the one she looks up to. Then he was going to realize that even through it was an easy time, she wasn't at the same point of her life as he was. Maybe kind of a weird sex moment where he couldn't go through with it because they had such a good relationship with him as a mentor/advice giver. Having Rin's obstacle be "he's a male" is kind of weird. I don't think most gay or bi people see that as an "obstacle" a partner brings to the table. But whatever. I'm not gay or bi myself, so I just saw Rin as a cool character for my Vincent to interact with. It definitely doesn't hurt the game, but it went from a study of "the things middle aged men have issues with in relationships" to that plus "what if I'm also bi?"

I think the issue is more the fact that his reaction mirrors the very frequently violent response made against trans people irl when their partner finds out. Many assaults and outright murders have been justified by this "gay panic" defense. I would say that Vincent's reaction is a realistic, if mild, depiction of that scenario. But maybe Super BB felt that such an awful trend doesn't need to be echoed in media.

Vincent is long time friends with Erica, they know and trust each other, and are clearly ok with what they have Rin on the other hand, shows up literally out of nowhere, and at a really unfortunate and stressing time for Vincent They have a calming effect on him and soon become a third love interest, and during this whole time He is completely 100% sure Rin is just another girl, and then one day as they get to trust each other, Rin, who at no point gives any warning or indication of being trans or anything, just randomly decides to flash him? Now you could argue Rin *is* trans or nonbinary or just a regular male that likes to crossdress, but the point is, it doesn't matter, because it would still make Vincent question himself and wonder why the hell they didn't mention before. Imagine, you are a woman and you like guys, not a single doubt about that. Then you are dating a guy and out of nowhere turns out that guy was actually a cis girl all along and they never said anything or even hinted at it. I would be pissed. And even then it doesn't last long, it's clearly a reaction mostly out of shock and betrayal, and he soon realizes he was too harsh on Rin anyway. I feel like people really fail to see the context properly/put themselves in Vincent's shoes when it comes to this moment. To me it just feels realistic.

I loved both the original and Full body even going out of my way to get the cute steelcase. I wish we had more games like Catherine, like small scale experiments that invert what a company is known for. Like personally I haven't gotten to the Persona games before since I was not the biggest fan of jrpgs but picked Catherine up in a sale and immediately fell in love with the style and beauty as well as the gameplay. It definitely gives me a reason to try Persona 5 but I have heard it can be a bit tricky to get into if you haven't played many jrpgs

Those secret endings are funny, Katherine becomes the temptress that is playing and taunting Vincent, pretending to be with a new man to torment him even though she misses him, while the crazy bitch Catherine gives him the stable life with a family that he was scared of. It's like a zen riddle how the c/katherines weren't being true to themselves and were just playing a role, by switching it up they became happy.

I can never stress how much I love this game and what kind of personal impact it's made on my perception of love and what it means to be in a relationship when I was a teenager seeing this for the first time. And it eggs at me how nobody else in my life can see it the way I do. They'd see the scantily clad woman on the cover and excuse the whole game thinking I'm only into the game for the look of it all when Catherine herself is far from one of the top reasons I love this game like I do. It's a comfort game for me too and it warms my soul every time I reminisce about it. This was also the first time I was ever introduced proper to a trans character in media and having learned it in a twist via the True Katherine ending was a nice surprise. Even looking back on it now, I personally feel like Erica was handled marginally well, even if some of that quality was wasted on jokes at Toby's expense. Full Body felt like a barb-wired fence to hop through when seeing the way people talked about it/Rin (with the twist of his identity on full display). As someone who has come to identify as demipan, Full Body helped me compartmentalize a few distinct perspectives about how relationships can work through the KCQatherines and I'm all the more grateful for the experience, even if Full Body isn't my preferred version (The pacing Really feels tilted when you're going for a specific girl while the game is trying to have it both ways; made it really disorienting playing the Rin route on my very first playthrough). Nevertheless, this game is so important to me and I am glad it was my first Atlus game before I ever even heard of Persona. If I ever end up having a daughter, I am going to name her Katherine.

Basically this demon/god is upset that these guys are not 'going forth and multiplying' with their women and instead keeping them from continuing the human race. Japan has a population growth issue (mostly due to their unrealistic immigration policies but regardless). It makes sense that Japanese writers would feel differently about this as their country is looking at serious deficits for their society in the future. Population growth levels out naturally but a society that shrinks too fast won’t be able to support their elderly, maintain a strong economy, or integrate immigrants slowly enough to maintain certain desirable cultural norms.

Japan has the opposite issue of a lowering population. many japanese ppl are increasingly not interested in sex and relationships with other people, in part to their immigration policies, gender related tensions, and puritan, conservative general culture. the work culture also doesn’t exactly leave many people time for sex, so it’s a culmination of many things

For me, Rin's true path just feels like the "right" choice overall in terms of Vince finally being truly happy with himself and the situation. Not to mention that route also has the best outcome for every other character around him. (Shout out to my boy Jonny finding his soulmate.) Catherine has and will be my forever guilty pleasure game. Even if it stumbles in a few places, it's hard NOT to love or at least appreciate the weird uniqueness of the game, along with the characters and the chemistry they have together.
