@@dorellusthagod which is stupid. What should blow up in their faces is charging us for old main roster characters in form of dlc (or charging for Lidia as a dlc character two games in a row), or the nonexistent free costumization options since release, or not being able to lab against characters we don’t own, or the battlepass, or the scummy Tekken shop release. I think I realised within 15 minutes that the story was going to be stupid, so I just sat back and enjoyed the ride. I kind of wanted to see just how daft it could get and I wasn't let down; Eddy putting out firestorms with capoeira spins, flying deus ex machina monks, headbutting meteors, Heihachi turning face then heel again, it was so dumb I got a good laugh out of it. If I had to pay for it though, it would have been a different story, I probably would be more annoyed. Heihachi's death was an amazing send-off and he should've stayed dead unless they could've brought him back in a better way like as a clone or done something with Jinpachi as you mentioned.

After TTT2, Harada had to convince Namco to even allow T7 to be made. I believe T7 was made and marketed as the Mishima's last battle, because they didn't expect the game to sell well and to be able to make a T8. I think Harada saw T7 as Tekken's swansong. And so they did something epic for the end of it that would definitively finish the story if T8 was never green lit.

@@arpadszabo661 yeah, it was open ended and you can build off it. However, if the story had ended with grandaddy dying, that would've been a very fitting end to the saga. And the way it was marketed as the Mishima last battle plays into my theory. It's not that they didn't think they would get to make T8, just that they wrote it in a way that if they didn't that would've been a fitting end.

A bit of a rant, I apologize in advance. My thing with Heihachi surviving 7 was the Monks even being there. They could've cloned him (cloning is not new in this series), or used the Tekken Monks to decide who would be the new Heihachi, with Reina being a prime candidate. 1. How were the Monks there, and why are they called the "Tekken" Monks? I don't recall the Tekken tournament being a more than a century event. It's a Heihachi original. Why aren't they called the Mishima Monks (MishiMonks for short)? If they withdrew from the world, then why did they appear NOW? They didn't appear when Heihachi got bodied by Kazuya and thrown down a cliff. They didn't appear when Kazuya's Devil Form was revealed. Heihachi had to pack him alone, and then threw him in a volcano. They didn't appear when Heihachi awakened Jin's Devil Gene, nor did they appear during the two years Heihachi was plotting to utilize Ogre's power. They didn't appear when Jinpachi rose from the dead and threatened to end the world. They didn't appear when Jin caused WW3, nor did they appear when Azazel returned. They didn't appear when Kazuya was globally revealed to be a Devil. They only show up AFTER all is said and done. Wasn't the style meant to exterminate demons? 2. Do you remember the Star Crusher Trial? Where Heihachi was meant to destroy that meteor and ended up regaining his memories? They knew Jin and Kazuya's battle would drops meteors from the sky. They were expecting it, so they have a level of precognition that can at LEAST predict half a year into the future, if they started training Heihachi immediately after rescuing him. If they can predict the future (because every clan can, for some reason), why the hell didn't they stop Kazumi? It was because of Kazumi's involuntary betrayal, because she couldn't control the Devil within, that caused everything to happen. The Monks could've helped Kazumi control it with the teachings of the Buddha. They probably could've even sealed it. Anti-demon Buddha-bless-you type shit, you know? 3. Like you said, Kazuya was watching. I was watching this with a friend, and I started wondering if that jingle we heard when Heihachi was rescued, that sound and visual effect implied genjutsu or illusion... but Kazuya would've heard the jingle and been suspicious of who else was present, which leads me to 4... 4. How did Akuma not know the Tekken Monks were there? His whole thing is fighting strong people like Ogre. And speaking of Ogre, they bothered to elaborate him destroying the main branch of the Kazama Clan. What about them? You can't tell me the Tekken Monks don't deserve an ancient ass-beating for being included the way they have, just to get killed off in an hour. My last gripe, which is my personal gripe against media in Far East, is the AMNESIA trope. I cannot stand how they use amnesia. For some reason, when stories, or character arcs hit a nice point to end things off, they pull out the amnesia card just to extend things longer than they need or even should be. I don't even know how they could redeem the Tekken Monks. They would have to make a Tekken Dimensions to compile all of the retcons this story already has.
@thatguysho227
@thatguysho227 Күн бұрын
Tekken is a word in japanese that means iron fist, its literally not a Heihachi original. Also, its not even called Tekken tournament, its the king of iron fist tournament. Even the japanese characters say 'king of iron fist' in english instead of tekken. They rescued Heihachi then because the Star crusher trial was coming soon and they were desperate for a strong enough mishima to master the technique which they can only do every 200 years. I don't think its crazy to assume they were biding their time to save themselves when all the devil stuff was going on. Tekken monks can't see the future. They said the meteorite falls every 200 years which implies it's fallen before in the past. They know its gonna fall because its happened before, not because they can see the future. I didn't like the story either but some of the stuff you said was straight up false or lacking critical thinking and I just wanted to clear some of that up.

I’m convinced Kazuya saw Heihachi survive and made a deal with the Mishima clan to keep him alive as a backup plan if jin’s hands were too much for Kazuya to withstand. Heihachi having amnesia was a bonus for the clan so they could stupidly go with teaching good Heihachi the technique without Kazuya’s knowledge. Ok bs aside, personally I think they should soft reboot the series back to before t6 and rehire all the writing staff from t4 and tell a relatively serious story going forward.

Your idea is better than Namco's. One major thing they ruined with this piece of story is especially the newcomer Reina. This is where her role should have been explained as pretty much everyone expected her to play a major part in Heihachi's return and be the bad girl by his side, maybe future heir. But they threw away this opportunity as well. Now any future explanations for Reina's decision to become a demon will be very stupid. She has gone from being Tekken's newcomer and new main face of the game to yet another secondary character who does nothing special. Come on Namco...one really has to try hard to write this badly.

Ok, as far as I understood, the "centuries-old Mishima-Ryu" was originally a sword fighting style (kendo, kenjutsu, iado,...) developed for fighting devils. It was around that time that some practitioners of it went separate ways, 'cause the Mishimas were too power hungry, and the Tekken Monks were created. After WWII, Jinpachi picked up that style and mixed it with Karate in order to create a more modern style without weapons... so, he still is the creator of the Mishima-Ryu Karate. And here I'm just guessing, but probably the Tekken Monks went down a similar path or copied Jinpachi, 'cause we don't see them carrying any weapons.

Hell Reina's inclusion in the main story barely makes any sense. Let alone telling us that Heihachi no only survived Kazuya's death fist to the fucking heart only to have lost his memories. And don't even get me started on how we literally SAW him fall and get engulfed but lava only for them to change the story and say that he was saved last second by a Tekken Monk. Last time we talked about Heihachi returning canonically from dead being badass and great by you way back just proves it wasnt at all Even if going by the assumption Akuma came and distracted Kazuya after tossing Heihachi out and happens immediately, thats the only thing you can say about how he didnt see Seiryu save him, but they dont explain it and requires the assumption it did which just leads to an excuse most will roll eyes about it His revival going by mentions of ressurection in reveal and character trailer also being the only explaination why he lives is again, assuming thats what happened because the game doesnt bother explaining that either Much like the4thsnake said, making him non canon in lore like Kazumi and how other fighting games did was better then getting him back, with Tekken 8 being at least a step into the end of the mishima conflict Last time i dont think i asked you and i hopefully you reply, if you do that, you do it seriously to this and not trolling, you want Tekken 9 and other sequels if going that far, to keep being focused on the Mishimas with Jin, Kazuya and Heihachi over and over? The expansion clearly didnt do that good of a job, Heihachi shouldnt have returned

Why do we as fighting game consumers cut so much slack for Tekken's story but we are so relentless when it comes to Mortal Kombat's story. What if it was the other way around? Would people accept a "Khaos Reigns" of sorts in Tekken because it's cheesy and over the top? Also, people saying it's free: nothing is free in life. You're paying one way or another. You're paying in the form of the stage. They just switched which product was charged.

People tend to go easier on things they feel have been delivering for a very long time. Tekken has delivered for a very very long time. It's only now we're seeing real chinks in the armour because of how poor a lot of the infrastructure in 8 is. If this continues, people will begin to treat it like MK. MK has been disappointing and angering people since 11. If Tekken does this all the way through 8 and into 9, you'll see people's attitudes change.

@@RealMikeHollow We can agree on disagreeing here... Basically, I see it another way: The complete opposite, to be honest! I absolutely despised Tekken 8's default story, but from what I've seen online, content creators were praising it for being fun, cheesy and over the top. Tekken's story has not been delivering since T4. Which is way long since MK dropped "Aftermath", or if you want a more consistent quality over time, MK9 through MKX. I've noticed real big content creators for Tekken not even touching on the subject... TMM didn't do a playthrough for YT; PhiDX is fixated with the nerdiness aspect of the gameplay (as he always does); Aris doesn't give a fuck about anything Tekken related anymore since season 2 of T7; etc. The only big one touching the subject is Moonsault Slayer. KingJae and K-Wiss played it live but that was about it. In short, I think it all boils down to the fact that Tekken players couldn't care less about the story. They're happy Heihachi is back, fuck the rest and I'm happy for them, of course. At the end of the day, I think MK brought this to themselves. TK didn't promise being good, while MK takes itself too seriously. As a veteran fan of MK from the 3D era, I missed Stryker blocking his ears while his opponent is exploding, Bo' Rai Cho farting fire towards people, Scorpion becoming a penguin in his Animality, people exploding in a million skulls and ribs, over the top gibberish during specials. Now, MK has to be edgy, realistically gory, serious tone, sadistic torturing like I'm watching LiveLeak. It's my opinion, but I don't like the direction it's heading, but hey, I'm the minority here. Anyways, it's cool discussing with you and have you easy to approach. Keep up the good work, man! And I'm always looking forward to the constructive videos in which you reimagine the story and tell us what could be done right according to how you feel. PS: Don't let the USO Brothers take your streak in WWE. Take care, bro!

@@henriquecampos4120 Yeah, we will definitely have to disagree on that one haha. Tekken 8's base story was a ton of fun in my opinion. It was too over the top anime. Heihachi single handed nerfed yoshi and eddy on his own by palming them both by the head and holding them up like a Spalding basketball and tossing them away like dirty laundry. So as far as the mashima style is concerned it seems like the mashima been existed but jinpachi created the form of it we recognize that heiachi perfected cuz one of the monks had a shoulder charge guard break n stuff which isn’t used by jinpachi or heiachi so it could be that’s what they meant but worded poorly but if that wasn’t what they meant then it honestly been retcon in T7 since it’s already said in T7 the mishimas n the demon clans existed for centuries anyway but the whole heiachi getting saved thing was dumb n as far as the pure of heart thing goes he became pure of heart after successfully defeating his evil self in his mind n training with lidia which sealed off his memories which was what the monks were gambling on to purify the clan completely n the world next until he had the bright idea to headbutt the meteor since in the story bullets they also say the 3 mishmas that had the potential of obtaining the ultimate style were heiachi, kazuya, n jin but didn’t approach any of em cuz all of em were evil or doing evil stuff at the time so basically because nobody but those 3 had the potential to unlock the ultimate technique the monks had to do a gamble with heiachi’s amnesia to get what they want

The only way I see that makes this 'plot' if we can even call it that become plausible is if the bonus battle with Akuma is also a canon event, I know in T7 its meant to be directly after Hei has been dropped and Kaz made his comments, but all that needs to change is it happens seconds after Hei was dropped, its the only way Kaz would become distracted via dodging the fireball for the lol random monk to save Hei. Then we piss off every SF fan instead and kill Akuma, else why is Kaz still around afterwards. Is it dumb, yes, should we even bother trying to make this all make sense, no. but I legit don't think there is another way haha.

I agree... The DLC's story was rubbish. Not wacky, not over-the-top ridiculous, but the neatest nonsense. I've probably said this too many times now, but I think they should have just gone with the Mishimas having the Devil Gene. That explains Jinpachi in Tekken 5 and how Heihachi could have survived the volcano (because Kazuya already has done in Tekken 2, as you say at 7:50); and Tekken 7 can partly be contextualized as a lie told to the journalist by Heihachi. Even in the base game's story, it seems that the person directing the narrative was off his head (I'm not a fan of the mainstream anime direction.)

The entire DLC is a bit of a head scratcher, it’s free so I can’t complain too much but there is some serious quality control that the Tekken team need to address as a lot of the subtitles in game are just outright WRONG.

Heihachi was truly meant to remain dead, and never return. And I can explain why this changed. Tekken tag 2 was so unpopular, that it was a flop, and I mean a really bad one. It was so bad, that namco decided to never make a Tekken game again. Harada was told that there won't be funding for another Tekken anymore. One day, harada came in to a meeting, and practically begged for one last Tekken, the game that will show the ending of the Mishima saga. If you noticed - Tekken 7 had a really low budget, it's especially noticable in the story mode and character ending episodes. In Haradas mind, and everyone else's mind, Heihachi died forever. But then, a miracle happened - Tekken 7 became very popular. The game that meant to represent the funeral of the franchise, ended up being it's savior. Fast forward 10 years, here we are! Tekken is back, Heihachi is back, and I'm very happy with all of it. And actually I did enjoy the free story, because I was aware that some mambo jambo will bring him back, so, I went in prepared.

By the way, we know that Tekken Monks have very strong Ninjutsu. When Heihachi got saved, his mind was intact, but it was them who sealed his memories away in order to achieve the ultimate technique. I believe the same strong Ninjutsu was used on Kazuya at the top of the volcano to make him think that he saw Heihachi fall. And to explain why exactly it was Heihachi they were after - they didn't have anybody else closer to the Ultimate Mishima technique, and he isn't a devil. The story goes that Mishima is a family that was always in war with devils for thousands of years, that's why they doubled down to explain that the ultimate technique needs to be "pure". Devil's gene probably is incompatible with it.

Why do we suddenly expect FIGHTING GAMES to have good stories? 😂 That expansion was created to sell characters. Same with MK1 from what I understand (I didn't play that one). They just have a story behind it because it's expected by the fanbase. Back in the day they'd just add the characters in with NO explanation. At least we got some cool moments. 1) Eddy using his style to clear the fire. 2) Lidia actually looking like a badass. 3) Heihachi headbutting a FREAKING METEOR! All cool moments. But as far as the story, fighting games NEVER have good stories forreal. So I don't judge them on the same level as other types of games. For a FIGHTING GAME story, this shit was a 6.5-7. Just my opinion, but the fighting games having weak stories is more of a shared opinion amongst fans.

I find it funny, I would say I ask for better and care more about story and lore in fighting games than you Mike however you are definitely way more disgruntled about this story expansion than I am. I put this at slightly higher than you just because I knew they were going to have to do some real (big) dumb retcons this time around to justify Heihachi's return. Tekken monks existing are a big reach certainly but I don't think them banking on Heihachi specifically was as big a reach as you claim it was here. I don't think they can see into the future they just have prophecies which is how they knew a meteorite would fall in this exact spot in 200 years. Even in the main story Zafina states Kazuya's and Jin's final battle was prophesied I remember. As for why the monks would bank and teach an amnesiac Heihachi the forbidden techniques I think they were desperate and saw no other alternatives to this. The whole pure of heart is debatable, just because Heihachi can remember remnants of his past even before fully regaining his memories from a meteorite doesn't mean he actually knows who he is and has been tainted by evil. This distinction I would say is like the difference between say sentience and sapience. Whether Heihachi is pure of heart would also propose the idea if you believe in reincarnation does your past lives' sins carry to you current self especially since Heihachi definitely seemed to remember parts of it as a blur (or not) initially? Personally I don't think past sins truly taint the heart in this type of context but enough of this pseudo philosophical drivel. The story is stupid and I agree with you there and I think most people do for that matter. I just don't agree with some of the criticisms and rewrites you have in mind. I really think they should've just gone with non-canon Heihachi DLC and what if scenarios to explain his moves since the beginning and I feel you just proved to me you probably would've preferred this non-canon or flashback Heihachi with how unhappy you seem to be with this final product, writers went "full retard" in your words. lol Also despite how bad dumb this story is, I think it was still a fun popcorn flick piece of crud unlike my typical experience with most of the NRS MK's stories. Hopefully we can get something better competently written next time in Tekken, I don't want more (major) retcons personally. More retcons usually just exasperates the story's problems of being badly written and destroys past viewers personal time investment in a lot of cases. I think at this point they need to lie in the bed they made for themselves and work with what they got rather than trying to shoehorn more retcons to fix the poorly written retcons in my opinion. Retcons aren't inherently bad, it's a literary device that can be used well or extremely poorly similar to red herrings. The reason why NRS MK games' have become such a joke is because the time travel and multiverse devices are just poorly veiled retcons that they use to retcon pretty much anything on a whim. I think there's a decent chance we get NRS levels of bad when we invite more retcons and try to fix a retcon with a retcon.

I’m tired of this narrative of people don’t care about the stories. I care this is why Mortal Kombat has an actual media outside their video games. Regardless, if these current stories are good or bad, there’s always somebody that’s going to like something from the game, the animated movies or the live action, movies, etc.. Tekken live action movie was trash back in 2009. Do you have blood vengeance that was decent and then you had that recent Netflix animated series that was trash and street fight didn’t even put out a legit story. I don’t count that world Tour as Canon. and when it comes to the recent media or just overall their track record isn’t too great other than the 90s street fighter movie and maybe the V Alpha straight to DVD series everything has been trash live action. Like history of Chun Li 💩 and I like this show Claude Van Damme, but it’s like a guilty pleasure like Mortal Kombat annihilation
