Pre Patch is an amazing time to make gold. So many opportunities open up. Now is the time if you want to make a nice little start to Cata.

Hi Seren, i haven't played wow since legion and will come back for cata classic probably starting this week-end, i have absolutely nothing so i will be starting fresh , what are some good tips to get a good financial situation ingame and what would you recommend please

Hey :) Welcome back! So if you are starting completely fresh, I'd probably try to gather. Even if you only start out gathering then switch to your main professions once you have a little bit of gold sorted. While you are levelling though, try to sell all the greens you get, you will be amazed at some of the really random greens you find that are worth so much gold for transmog. Someone just 'has' to get that perfect belt for there outfit. Otherwise, don't forget to jump into a guild for some perks!

Where would you think is a good starting point making gold atm in the pre patch? I’ve just boosted a character to play with my guild from season of discovery. First day I got a donation of gold from a guildie to get both of the faster flying speeds as we were all trying to get archaeology up to get our weapons but want to pay it back. I’m playing a Druid and would most likely get leatherworking and probably engineering, can good gold be made with these profs? If you have any suggestions on what profs I could start out with instead. Loving the guides and hope the millions come your way!

I think Leatherworking & Engineering are great profession choices, but yeah you'll probably struggle a bit for gold levelling them up. I'd probably start with leatherworking & skinning. You could skin Black Dragonscale from the Elites in Burning Steps which sell really well raw or try to pick up the patterns for Black Dragonscale chest, shoulders & legs which are nice for transmog. Some of the level 70 TBC items as well are good for transmog, so pay special attention around there too. Then once you are comfortable with leatherworking & you know what sells you can drop skinning and just buy your materials from the AH when you see them cheap, then take engineering in your second slot. U can check the data on materials for all professions and make a list of all of them. Focus, for example, on alchemy and monitor the materials amount/price ratio. If the prices are high and demand is high (e.i. low mats) then u can farm these herbs and sell them fast. Also, optional, learn how to use "tsm tradeskillmaster" because it will show u in-game how fast the material is selling (average sale rate) and how much (average daily sold). Otherwise, use external websites like "JP Worgen" to get avg sale rates and daily sales. Just keep in mind that sales are a lot of luck: u can sell everything in one evening or keep reposting for a week and only get a few sales.

I went through a big phase back in wod where I was crafting so many of those cards it was unreal. I'm sure it was WOD as I remember being in a Garrison doing it. But yeah, those cards were really fun, and surprisingly lucrative!

Any gold making tips for engineering / tailoring?

Hey :) So for Tailoring Bags are as always so good. Or alternatively just craft the materials (spellweave, ebonweave, moonshroud) and those also fly off the shelf. For engineering, I always lean towards selling materials or bombs, but in Cata you will have a really neat selection of scopes as well as the 'loot a rang' which I believe works like AOE looting? And so should be in high demand. I will be looking a bit more into both of those soon and making a profession video on each.

Yeah I understand, you might notice in the video I was dealing with over 600 expired auctions with my sales stuck at the bottom. Glyphs are really tough, particularly with the AH throttle.

Any idea how to properly figure out a crafting price for the pigments?

Unfortunately it never really works out exactly. The closest I can ever get is if you use TSM. In the crafting window, open the second tab (Gathering) and make sure you have AH (Crafting) AH (Disenchanting), Craft (Profitable) and Craft (Unprofitable) all selected. Plus AH and Vendor which are standard anyway. Also, in TSM main settings. Try updating your Default material cost method to dbminbuyout (the default is dbmarket). This means you are looking at the latest pricing data rather than the market price over the last 2 weeks. This is great for times when prices are crazy but remember to swap it back when things settle again!

I've been doing really well with the Blacksmithing ones. Everything except the holy paladin things which never seem to sell! If you use TSM, in your profession book you should be able to see Sale Rates & Profit. The profit isn't always spot on, but its close enough to give you a good idea of what to craft.

As a scribe I made 30k day one cuz I was able to sell shaman glyph that allows lightning bolt to cast while moving… 700g a glyph made about 18k alone off those

Ahh good job! I was so jealous when I saw people discovering new glyphs yesterday, I rolled my original scribes into alchemist for transmutes, so levelled one just for pre patch. Bought 65 books but didn't have enough days to do all discoveries.

People were saying bots were buying out everything and reposting for high prices day 1…. I kinda believe it because the glyphs were going for 1k and as soon as I posted for 500-750g they would sell out instantly

Bought 1000 potions of speed for 2.99/e , flasks of fw for 2.50-3.50e and saronite ore 60s e to resell after patch drops. Mamaged to sell less than 10% of my stock so far. Rip

Honestly, if your stock isn't selling just hold out a couple of days then try. Or even try posting larger quantities at peak times. I'd be mildly concerned about flasks because they drop from the boxes you get for questing (same with mana potions - but not potions of speed thankfully) I started selling pretty early this time, but when a patch hits I wouldn't usually expect to sell for at least 3 days to a week.

Leave saronite for 2-3 weeks after cata launches. Potions and (elixirs) u can vendor right now. Flasks may be ok once cata launched

So this is why I am finding so hard to want to play and get motivated when just starting the game for cata but people have made it impossible because they are desperate to rule the servers making gold. I wish that blizzard would just make it so they would wipe inventories and take the economy back to zero to force us all to start again. New game should be new economy. Now it's swipe the credit card or don't play. I don't blame use guys I understand why use do it but this is a terrible way to gain popularity and make new players want to play

Thats a great comment and its something that I consider regularly. I believe though that having players focusing on making gold, actually improves the experience overall for other players. Glyphs for example were a huge time sink in the run up to Pre-Patch, a relatively small amount of players went to the trouble of crafting thousands of glyphs. This meant that as a new player when you went to the Auction House on Patch Day you found a large supply of glyphs priced anywhere from 2g to 90g with a few outliers that were brand new (for example the shaman lightening bolt as per comment below) that cost upwards of 800g, you just needed to wait 24 hours for that to drop down though, its now below 100g on most servers. I love fresh servers (though boosted rates as I'm a terrible terrible leveller!!) I really enjoy starting from nothing. For a brand new player there is rarely a better time to start than now. A bit of herbing while you level archeology and you'll have a great stash of starter gold in no time. Your average player doesn't need huge amounts of gold (in part thanks to goblins over supplying & keeping your prices nice & low!).
