The easy solution to fixing the squeal is replacing the diff fluid with the proper pump2 oil from Honda. The old fluid breaks down like any other oil……… But this is awesome if your looking to add some fun to already fun car. I’ve been looking at doing this for a while now.

Great explanation of the dual pump set-up. I am getting ready to use the S1 Built locking rings on my 2001 CRV differential for my 91 Civic AWD project, but adding a Freelander viscous coupler in the drive shaft. *_Don’t you risk damage to the differential or transmission now without a viscous coupler?_*

I wonder how much balance of the pack makes. I know my truck drive shaft had to be balanced because it was vibrating hard. Seems like it would be better if there was a way attach the two together in the center there whether you'd have to drill and tap or weld or both. And remove some material off the end of the spline shaft if needed to make it all fit together. I'll have to see it all up close when I take mine apart. .

Josh Bullers thanks for your time to look it up for all of us. I think we could try a few different tire sizes for the rear wheels. I have a RPM gun where you put a piece of tape that the gun picks up. We could put it up on the lift running in 1st gear and put a piece of the tape that the gun picks up on the front tire and 1 on the rear tire. Record what RPM the front is running at then see what the rear tire RPM is running at record that. Then I would try a larger size size and do the same thing to see what the rpm of the tire is with the larger size tire is write down what the RPM are if you need to change the tires size again. If needed keep good records of what Rpm you get with different size tires. I drove a Subaru awd with 2 different size tires on it for over 1 year when I was younger I didn’t have money for new tires so I got used tires that were like new. I think it was as followed on the front it was 215-50-16 and on the back 205-50-16 and they say that you should never do this. But if I did not know they were 2 different size tires from front to back I never would’ve known. So try to get it as close as possible and it will be fine.
@jasonbamford75795 жыл бұрын
HunterTuned look what I wrote on josh billers replies about the gear ratios. Under Jason bamford so I don’t have to rewrite the whole thing again I hate texting but I think the RPM gauge with the tape that comes with it. First I would put it on the lift put piece of tape on the front tire running in first gear Watch the tack in the CRV it probably runs at 800 right. Just make sure what ever RPM you recorded on the front. Do the same thing on the rear record what the rear tire RPM is running at making sure same engine Rpm is the same as the front tire test was. You’ll probably only have to go up or down one size but try the different sizes and rite it down and get it as close as possible and it will be fine

@@jasonbamford7579 only thing to keep in mind is that when theres no load on the wheels the slop in the driveline may cause erratic fluctuation of the wheels, id put the tape on the driveshafts right at the pinion flange

So Im planing on doing this to my element. What are the cons to this
@Denver1976Man3 жыл бұрын
If you do just fill the basket with steel friction plates, no welding and if it doesnt feel right you can reverse it and put it back. I own an element and you will wear it out faster. the gear ratios front to back do not match. They do not on these either. same drivetrain. Elementally Elements are great as they are...lol

So this makes ot a full time awd system or just makes the rear engage better when the front slips? I'm kinda confused how these difs work all ik is they only engage when the front looses traction and I wanna get rod of that cause theres no use for that on my setup
@JamesBiggar3 жыл бұрын
It makes it full time AWD. The mechanism that engages the rear with the front is the clutch pack. Pin it or weld it solid to the input shaft or do as he did and it becomes direct drive. The clutch is no longer a clutch.

well dam, i thought the crv was as good as the rav4 for off road. . . guess not, I have the 5spd 99 rav4 and it is unstoppable in just about any condition, mud, muck, sugar sand, beach sand, l ow tide ocean , canals, snow, . . . you name it it will not get stuck, doing all this while normal used street tires with barely any tread, [unbelievable sounding i know] buts its the dam truth, . . . however there is no dam aftermarket support was wanting to go to the crv 05 k block and boost. .

@@johnnymoran180 super good to know. . . this video actually inspired me to do some research and this is what i found. . . its very interesting but also disheartinging because i want to build a boosted k24 stick shift awd CRV, but from these diagrams it shows the toyota system is way more robust and simplier . . . its a 50/50 power split, full time awd, locking center diff plus a LSD on the rear end. . . the dam crv is only pump activated meaning it only activates once it detects slip but besides its only fwd full time and even then when its connected to the rear end its connected by a cluthc. . . SMH. . .WTF. . . in other words the rav4 solves the problem before it happens by a raw connection , the crv solves the problem after it happens by the solenoid pump clutch pack wizardey. . . .the problem is there is virtually no aftermarket support for the RAV4 and virtually and unlimited ammount for the CRV . . . got to tell you those these articles by AWD wiki are quite fascinating to look over since it explains the engineer behind it www.awdwiki.com/en/honda/ www.awdwiki.com/en/toyota/

@@mikeriverajr4447 Yes, I think Honda really dropped the ball on the four-wheel drive setup with the Element. it had plenty of room for two people to sleep in overnight and carry gear, it made a great little camping rig. where yours has better four-wheel drive system the element has more room so it's a trade-off I guess. I had bought a spare diff to do the quick spool system but after going on the sand I decided it wasn't necessary at this time.

In theory it's supposed to be locked into full time 4WD, but you still run into the issue on the open rear differential so if one of the back wheels are in the air or slipping you lose power to the all power to the one that's planted.
