Well guys... I'm finally doing it. I'm committing to making the switch over to Flockwatch for my sheep data management.
I'm not going to lie, change for me is hard.
Technology is also hard for me at times... mostly because I have zero patience when I'm learning something new.
So I brought in some help... all the way from IRELAND!!!
Yup, Michael from Flockwatch came to Canada to help me get sorted, and started on the system.
It's going to take time, and a lot of referencing what I've already collected on my Gallagher system, but in the long run I think this app will be what I need on the farm.
#sheep. #management #technology

The only reason the 'dislike' the others is so their milk goes to their own lamb, when they are laying down and noone tries stealing they are totally fine with other lambs being around an on top of them. They are flock animals they stick together.
@lindalumae
@lindalumae Жыл бұрын
They will still push lambs that are not theirs away so they don’t nurse. But some lambs do steal successfully. So maybe the ewe is tired and doesn’t care or the lamb is just sneaky.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the accent! I'm so glad Michael wasn't camera shy. Did I hear you correctly, that he brought you over some Irish Whiskey ... from the Motherland!?! It really sounds like, once you have the Flock Watch programmed and all set up to your liking, you'll be able to work a lot more efficiently. Better than having to rely on your memory as to what is or is not working re: breeding decisions. I hope this whole set-up you're working on, will actually reduce the incidences of ewe/lamb mortality rates ... would be such a bonus. I think I speak for most of us, if not all, that we all cry along with you, when you lose either, or ... meaning a ewe and/or a lamb. I'm so excited as Charlie's back for the next VLOG ... and it's only several weeks before lambing. Yeahhhhh! I hope you're catching up on your sleep Sandi. Also looking forward to the new table that Mark's making, being completed. Is it for the cottage or the house? It's looking really good ... Harvest tables almost always are. I may have forgotten to mention in the last VLOG that the cottage is really coming along. You guys must be so proud of your accomplishments. It'll be somewhere nice for you both able to relax and destress. Thanks again for the video Sandi ... ta ta!

Been waiting anxiously for a new video! Had to put my cat down yesterday. It was sooooo hard. Didn't want to talk to anybody or do anything...but curl up on the couch and watch and rewatch your videos! Sheep comfort!

Melanie, I'm facing the same thing soon. My 12 year old tuxedo girl, Cookie (the perfect kind..warm, soft, sweet, no calories), has cancer in her jaw. It is fast growing. We've had her since she was 6 weeks old. She is my baby. My heart is breaking but I know it is the most loving thing to do. Hoping to get a couple more weeks of cuddles first. So, I understand the need for a Sandi video today. Tearful kitty momma hugs from another Melanie.

Its great that they've come all the way from Ireland 🍀🇮🇪 to promote the flockwatch and help Sandi set it up..when you figure Sandi has nearly 1 million subscribers it's feasible that some of those are like minded farmers who could use this no matter what the speices of animal they have.. it looks more info than the Gallagher..now they need to be able to add the weights in too and all Sandi's hiccups have been sorted out..love looking at the snow..not so nice driving in it..wonder if he had to hunker down with the Brocks ?.. hope William and Billy are better soon..see you next time..and I know they're expensive but you need a new roller to turn them and hoof trim which is easier on your back..Mark bought that big wood cutter so its only fair you get some $$$ to spend on equipment too..see you next time..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏🐑🐏🐾🐾❄🇨🇦

Sandi, the man from Flock Watch seemed very interested in helping you get your "Flock" set up the way YOU want it done! It's also great that he let you go thru the process on your own, and he didn't take your "magic wand" and phone, and he go thru it so fast you wouldn't be able to keep up or understand what you're doing! I feel that it's best when I do something new, that I need to do it myself to learn the entire process as I enter the info! I really like you having the capability to enter the lamb's weight in pounds! Thank you for continuing to explain whatever's happening, because any new person to your KZbin vlogs will be able to understand. You're not being redundant by explaining and you're explanations are easy to understand to me, a "city girl" in the USA who loves watching you! Thank you for being YOU! Take care, and I will see you in the next vlog!

Never in a million years would I have thought I'd be looking forward to watching videos of sheep tending 😁 . You work so hard and care so much about your sheep, You should be very proud of your work. I know a lot of people might think the Barn is noisy but I find the bleating rather soothing.

I know in this life we have unexpected events, some positive and some more difficult. Your channel and the sharing of your daily routine brings me such a wonderful peace. I absolutely love watching the ewe's. I tend to forget my own problems for just a hour or so. I know it's hard work, but thank you so much for sharing. God bless your farm, family, and you! Have a beautiful Canadian day, from California.

my educated guess on the low weights was tied to that cold snap. If you didn't substantially increase their rations, they would have been using the calories to stay warm instead of gaining weight. We have this with horses, etc.

What a great new program! Anything to make your sheep program easier is a welcome relief. I would have made him stay overnight just so I could listen to his brogue for a bit longer. lol Poor Carrisa. She works so hard all day long at her 2 jobs and needs some sleep. She is a hero! p.s. Sandi, get a UVB light for your SAD. I have one and it has made my depression non existent. We empaths need to stick together!

hmmm...I noticed something which sent me down some linguistic detours! There was an entry in the "ram used" menu on the flock watch program that said "type of raddle". I take it "raddle" here (also "rattle" or "ruddle" as well, apparently according to the dictionaries google came up with) is another term for a marking harness? I had to go and look it up. I was intrigued because raddle also refers to a tool we use when weaving to keep the warp threads from getting massively tangled up when threading the loom. A raddle, for me, is a long stick with wooden teeth (kind of like a really big hair barrette) that clamps onto the threads. The idea of trying to put one of THOSE onto a ram intent on something else (ha, ha) seemed a bit foolhardy. It was quite interesting going through the program this morning! Thank you both so much!

@@lindastent-campbell5130 Down here in Ga we usually only get about an inch or two, enough to cover some of the grass and make everything look pretty and white. It melts by noon but ALL the schools and businesses close for the day so we all get a Snow Day!! ☃️🌨️❄️

I just love the lilt of Mikes Irish accent. It’s Lovely. But as for poor Billy, goodness me he’s been through the mill with his legs and feet. If his dad suffers damages easily, I wonder if it’s an hereditary thing eg like osteoporosis. Poor boy, I hope his pain isn’t too bad. As for William, you’re right, he looks sad, down in the dumps. Oh dear. I hope they’re ok and it’s nothing more serious.

I love Michaels Irish accent! 💕 I love the educational videos about you're flock watch/gallagher an how you manage you're sheep. I know nothing about sheep or the buissness, but this is basically a peek behind the curtain of what you have to deal with, on top of EVERYTHING else you do. ☺️ You are amazing, Sandi. Ik my brain could not remember all that info. 🤣
