I love what you do for people kiddo! I spent my 20’s and 30’s trying to help the homeless in Portland Or, with pretty much to no evail. One man, in particular, leaves an ever lasting memory in me, that I will never shake. He was sleeping outside my work, on a park bench. I left him coffee and a muffin. I came out to the muffin rapper left on the bench. I left a note, please throw the trash in the trash can. I came out the next morning, he was still there. I sat down next to him.. he said, did you feed me yesterday, I was like yes. He said thank you, I said you are more than welcome, but use the trash. He apologized, and that began a year friendship. He never asked for anything, but if I was having lunch, then I invited him into my works restaurant have lunch with me. Everyone would just look at us like I was insane, I’m like, this is the best conversation I’ve had in years. Jo was brilliant, extremely smart, well read, well spoken, his stories would captivate your heart. I loved every signaler moment I spent with him. ….he was just homeless and loved alcohol. We remained friends for over a year, security at work knew after a while, don’t call the cops, it’s Jo leaving Jenn a note. His notes were coffee table stories.. he always wanted to write…. His notes were about what he has been through in his life…. The Manila envelopes were always for Miss Jenn’s eyes only…. He had been through many wars.. had been through hell and back, but I know 100%, Jo always told me the truth. At first my work would call security and the cops, bc Jo was a bit drunk all the time, I quickly set them straight. He had my work # and my home number. He wore the most awesome pair of cowboy boots and a super high end watch…. Something I could never afford…. He spoke with such trepidation and such brilliance, I learned so much from him. He was so, so, smart. And after a year or so, of our lunches and stories, he stated I wasn’t safe any more, with all he had shared with me. He said I have to leave. He gave me the biggest hug and thanked me for everything, and said he had to go. I was in danger. I never saw him again. He said your life is more important than mine. And that was it. He told me about all the things he was caught up in bc of Al the wars.. we would talk, and he was like, they hear us. I am not an idiot, I am very smart and well rounded and educated, I still believe every word out of Jo’s mouth. I pray he is ok, I pray he is well. What an amazing man, that I was so lucky to meet. I still have his stories, and read them so often..they make me laugh and they make me cry, bc I don’t know how he is, what an amazing human being. I pray one day, that I can be half of the human being Jo was. Love you Jo.
