Good video. Man this reminds me of the Chinese pocket bikes I bought when they first came out. Stuff kept breaking right and left. I thought about one of these but this just reminds me of what I don't want to be doing. Fixing these.

Nice work sir! Check your chain tension. Everything I have been reading leads me to believe that the suspension is bottoming out and the chain is a little too tight, therefore the frame tearing itself apart. Hope this helps.

I liked how you did an entire overhaul guide on the common problems of the boomvader. Definitely will bring awareness so I can tackle it sooner when i decide to get these grom clones. I was curious to ask one thing. At around 11:19 you discuss the brackets keep falling off and you're solution was to use JB weld of some kind. I was curious how come you hadnt used the same welding gun method to stick the fairing brackets to the gas tank?
@jaredrenfro79333 жыл бұрын
Actually there was a few reasons.. First of all knowing that I was going to be using this video as a guide for others. I didn't want people to be welding on a gas tank because they saw me do it.. Second of all I am using flux core in my MIG welder and it doesn't do really well with thin metal. I most likely would just be melting holes in my tank.. like I said in the video though, if I could do it all over again I probably would braze weld the tabs on.
@Veagence1003 жыл бұрын
@@jaredrenfro7933 Oh I understand! It does matter what certain welding guns you have for the right job. The more I look into it the more interesting the concept of welding is lol

I THINK - you might have been able to build a piggy-back bracket and just bond it into place, given that you had a pretty large surface to bond it to. Hopefully save that PIA disassembly (never electric weld your bike or car directly.)

So on the tank.... I think I would have rather bought An SF Grom tank. Genuine Honda parts fit on the Vaders perfectly. But nicely montaged together. Good video!
@jaredrenfro79332 жыл бұрын
The Honda Grom is fuel injected and the boom Vader is carbureted... What would you do to seal the hole where the fuel pump goes on the Grom tank?
@jaredrenfro79332 жыл бұрын
You would also have to create a port at the bottom of the tank for the carburetor to be fed fuel because the OEM tank doesn't utilize a carburetor.. when I bought this bike I was told that Honda parts would fit seamlessly.. but to be honest with you it's not as many as you would think the bikes are actually very different.
@jasonjulian12 жыл бұрын
@@jaredrenfro7933 true..I hadn't thought about fi vs carb on the tank. I have a 2020 Vader (with a zs190 swap), and it's been great. I put a bunch of oe Honda parts on mine. Axles, swing arm shaft, whee bearings, rear shock, brake lines, front forks.... Still so much cheaper than a Grom and it's been a fun project to build up.

Is this bike just cheaply made or were these problems just bad luck?
@jaredrenfro79339 ай бұрын
Probably both..but they are famous for being cheaply made.
Does anyone have an idea on the length on the bolts and the hardness grade?
@WorstPaperCut Жыл бұрын
As someone who modify cars and lifts transmissions for a clutch change. I feel like these cons are so child’s play to me. Probably because anything that breaks on a car is more hassle than a motorcycle.

Did you swap out the engine mount bolts? I’ve been trying to find the right size and having difficulty
@notamod97412 жыл бұрын
Yes he did, in the video he drilled the engine mount holes in the engine to verify they are 3/8" and then he replaced the bolts with ones that are 3/8" as well
@notamod97412 жыл бұрын
The bolts would just need to be long enough
@anythinggarage Жыл бұрын
@Notamod so 3/8 (coarse or fine doesnt matter) grade 8 and long enough to thread on a nylon lock nut? Got it!👍🏼 Some people suggest welding on a washer where the hole was made bigger, to give it more structural integrity. I wonder if I'll do the same. I'll be making videos similiar to this on a new vader I got for my channel shortly.

Great vid I got the same bike do u have any vibrating issues
@jaredrenfro79332 жыл бұрын
The bike no longer vibrates but when I had it new.. the exhaust rubbed up against both the frame and the oil pan bolt.. one of the biggest things that caused to vibrate was those engine mount bolts because they were way smaller than the engine mounting points.. as shown in the video... Bottom line I've got it to a place where she doesn't vibrate but it took quite the TLC.

Other than the engine mount tab (which I'm not convinced is a wide spread problem), an owner would have been better off buying a new tank and new exhaust. Would have cost less than $150 on Amazon for the better parts.

@@jaredrenfro7933 what your average fuel mileage on one of these clone? I been trying to figure out why the fuel mileage is so different between the Vader and the grom or navi. Grom from my research is about 100-130 MPG, NAVI 110 MPG and the Vader is 65 MPG. It's weird to me since it has the same engine.

A brand new Grom is 3x the cost... For some people, that's just too much more. A used one is 2x. There's a market for them.. And many don't have issues of any kind.
@vinnyvinson2 жыл бұрын
All vehicles need maintenance.
@Ac22768 Жыл бұрын
Why? A new Grom will set you back more than $5,000 OTD. A used one around the same right now. You still have to do maintenance on it... On sale, with shipping and tax you can find a Vader or similar brand for $1,300. The worst case scenario is the engine dies. A replacement is $250. You can literally buy 10+ engines before you get to Grom cost territory.
